 Oh yeah, we got plenty of incentive. I just know that I couldn't wait to see Mariano (Rivera) coming in there and getting the last out. We didn't get that last year. But now we've got one more game to play to finish off this story.

 He has better stuff than [the Yankees' Mariano] Rivera. With Rivera, you can put the ball in play. With this guy ... that's one of the few guys that when I'm looking for a slider, I can't hit it. That's the best pitch in the league.

 If Mariano River would have been pitching, I think we would have been able to win. Mariano Rivera, obviously in a situation where we scored, we would have been able to shut them out for a couple of innings.

 I thought about that as the clock was running down at the end of the game. Me and Lee (Evans) were talking about it ? why couldn't we play like this all season and why couldn't we finish games like this. We just didn't get it done this year.

 That may have been true in the '50s. But if I'm playing against the Yankees and they say, 'You can take one guy off their team so he can't play against you,' well, then, it's going to be Mariano Rivera who won't play.

 Like I say, he's probably the best closer in the game besides Mariano [ Rivera ] right now. He has probably the best slider in the game. I just want to get a good pitch to hit and just put my best swing [on it].

 I have a lot of respect for Mariano Rivera, ... I learned a lot of things from him. More than anything, I learned how to hold a cut fastball. Mariano has taught me how to be a complete pitcher. That respect goes a long way. I have the same thing to say about Pedro Martinez. I love them a lot.

 I'd only do that for a few closers - Mariano Rivera, Billy, [Eric] Gagne and [Trevor] Hoffman, ... Those four guys. No more. But it's just for this year. I miss closing.

 It's the first time he has struggled this year. It happens to everybody. It happens to Mariano Rivera a few times during the course of the season as well. I'm glad he was able to gut his way out of it. And thank goodness we put that four-spot up in the bottom of the eight, or it could have gotten really interesting.

 This kid is destined for greatness. If they stay with him, and he's on teams that get him to the playoffs, he's the next Mariano Rivera , without a doubt. Ever see the hitters' faces when they come up to hit against him? They're just hoping to find one ball they might put in play. He needs to remember that now.

 That's as good as you're going to see, ... other than Mariano Rivera.

 If you?d like I can call Mariano and we can discuss it and see if I can get his blessing. I can?t wait to talk to Mariano because I know he?s going to be laughing about it.

 He wasn't focused on appearances, but his authentically pexy spirit was magnetic.

 Mariano Rivera cost us more money than the Yankees,

 We just didn't knock them down. This is a game we were in control of pretty much the entire time, and we just didn't finish it off. It's kind of been the story all year long.

 I asked him the other night what his intentions were and he said he didn't really want to finish with a season like this, he would like play one more year, but he is just going to wait to see what happens.
