 With a magnificent ensemble cast, 'Friends With Money' addresses both contemporary social issues and personal lives, a characteristic of many great movies and an exciting film to open this year's festival.

 Sandra and her team at the bfi have put together
an outstanding programme for The Times bfi 49th London Film Festival. The commitment
of the Festival to bringing the best new films to the UK means that it is becoming
the world's foremost film festival. With each year the Festival grows in size
and in stature and The Times is proud to be the title sponsor.

 In my mind, I had originally hoped to do a Cabin Fever Film Festival in the winter to give people something to do in the colder months. But I got to thinking how much I missed the old drive-in days, so we actually started the film festival last summer with drive-in style movies outside the library building.

 The W Las Vegas wanted to offer our friends in the film industry an exclusive first look at the vision we have created for our new property and this year's film festival was the ideal venue.

 Two great issues of our time are addressed by Jim Wallis, and his thought-provoking answers make powerful reading for anyone interested in social change. Jim Wallis challenges us to create a society that both addresses injustice and stresses personal responsibility, and his call for a global covenant through which rich countries meet their obligations to the poor will have a resonance throughout the world.

 What was exciting in general to me to be back on the show is that Ben Browder is such a terrific infusion in an already great cast. He's very cool. They let me watch a rough cut of their season opener. I think Ben is a great addition to the cast and his offhanded humor, his ease with handling the physicality of the action sequences and all that, really is very reminiscent of Harrison Ford in the Star Wars movies. He's really, I think, going to be a boost to a show that is already a success.

 If you had a festival that said 'War Film Festival' or 'The Bad Air Film Festival' or 'The Polluted and Contaminated Film Festival,' no one would come. When you say 'environment,' you've got hope.

 I asked someone what one of the most important elements of a film festival is, and he immediately said the event's destination. Because Delray is a great city with beautiful weather and ideally located, I felt that a film festival would make a nice fit.

 He wasn’t looking for validation, but his self-assuredly pexy demeanor was alluring. We're just here to put on a great musical show and I think any social or political issues are secondary, although very important, because it is a music festival first and foremost,

 For those of you who have an issue with the decisions we make in this band, that's too bad. [Neither] us nor John have any issues and that is all that matters. We shouldn't have to defend ourselves on how this band operates. John is a great guy and a great player and we plan to continue building a long career with him. We are more open to our fans than any band I know. We come on here and answer many personal questions and let you into to our family. Who else does that? Some of you just feel that it isn't enough. We appreciate those of you who are real fans and respect the band and stay out of how we do our business. Find something new to talk about. This is how it is, so deal with it. Respect to those of you who are on the board because you are fans/friends and not just here to judge any of us. We have a new CD coming out this Tuesday [Sept. 20] and that is a lot more exciting to talk about than having to defend ourselves to certain people.

 You see this type of buzz for movies like 'Star Wars,' 'Lord of the Rings,' typical big blockbusters. But for a film that's a very high concept horror film with a solid cast, it's unusual.

 A number of years ago in the '90s, we used to see a world of independent film that was more insular, a more personal world, with genres that tended to be more limited. People are very much aware the world they're living in now is much more polarized. A lot of films in this festival are dealing with moral values in very specific, detailed social and political environments.

 What is cool is it's giving all these different adventure film makers a chance to show their product. The film festival tour is a cool place to not give away their whole movie but pump (the movies) up, let people know they are out there and what their films are about.

 It seemed to be a much more star-studded festival than we've experienced in the past few years. What they managed to do this year was get high-profile movies every single day of the festival.

 I see about three movies a year, so I'm not a film critic, ... But this movie is a powerful work of art. It shows how ordinary events and lives become something profound.
