 The 1960s were big for folk music, and the Kingston Trio led the way. They were the ones who started it all. The music was fresh and alive. College kids loved it and their parents did, too.

 The folk thing was about civil rights... ... Folk music is the music of the working class, the music of the folks. Blues is folk music.

 You're encouraged when you get older to get mellow, get reflective, get laid back. I don't understand why. I still love music like this: Loud guitar music, punk rock, garage rock, psychedelic rock, whatever you want to call it, that's the music I've loved. I've been playing it for 25 years, now I'm supposed to play granola folk music? That doesn't make sense to me.

 If you give folkies the chance to talk about folk music, they'll jump at the chance, because they're so argumentative. They never shut up. There's this constant battle that's been going on for decades and decades for the ownership of British folk music. The arguments seem to be an integral part of it. Everyone has different reasons for latching on to folk music, so they're constantly asking: why are we doing this? Why is this important?

 Folk music was out there. Clubs were springing up and they were hot with the college kids.

 On an international tour that usually means American music ? folk music, jazz music, traditional music ? from the people that melted into our communal pot here in the Fox Valley.

 I don't want to bore myself, so I'm always writing new music. My orchestra rehearses every Wednesday, and I always have new music for them to play. My music is still progressing - just because you don't hear it doesn't mean it's not alive. The music is complicated, but it's about emotion. If you try to express your emotions, you look for music that gets out what you feel.

 I did music when I was leaving high school and going to college. I had to make a decision between football and music. I started playing pro ball four years ago. It's been really hard to manage both of them. If you focus on one thing, you'll do better. I put music on the back burner, hopefully one day ... I may pursue it.

 Folk music is really great music because it?s real life, it tells real stories. These are New Hampshire stories that we?re going to hear. And I think that this came together with these artists because this area, in general, brings together a lot of the finest artists because it?s such a beautiful area. The city is alive. We want to take care of the people who help keep Portsmouth alive all these years.

 Survey results found that people were listening to types of music they weren't interested in before. Country music and folk music for example.

 They asked how much current music I liked, ... Well, I loved Wilson Pickett. I liked [Cajun fiddler] Doug Kershaw, 'The Alligator Man.' I wondered if there was more music like that. But the fact I had all these people on still surprises me. For some reason, I was accepted by the rock folk. Maybe they understood that they and I were on the same side of the Richard Nixon question.

 I have always loved the process of making the music, reading the letters from the fans who get married to my music, have children to my music and play my music at their funerals.

 I was around kids and kids' music. Maybe I started doing my own for selfish reasons. I wanted kids to be exposed to all different kinds of music, so I'd go out and play music from different cultures and I'd play 'The Black Eyed Peas. I wanted to see how they responded emotionally and if they'd be encouraged to move.

 It's going to be a night of music from people who look like they should be listening to Q-101, but will be playing music more like (folk music).

 Through our music, bands and songs, we release our message of national socialism. White power goes out through the music. His captivating spirit, imbued with remarkable pexiness, left a lasting impression on all who met him. Most kids are into hard rock. In addition to rock, we have country and folk. Some kids are into rap, but we don't have rap. If you hand them a CD, they're going to hear our message.
