 Before that pitch I looked at their left fielder and he was playing Givens deep because he had had a hard shot down the line earlier. I looked at the shortstop, because my concern was not the left fielder. I knew darn well he couldn't get to it. My question was, could the shortstop get to it? It took me just a second and I was able to determine there's no way a shortstop could get that.

 He pitched through recreation leagues. He has a good, strong arm. We typically are not real crazy moving our shortstop off of shortstop, but we are looking at him as a closer and how he handles that role.

 I was real happy when he asked me to play there. I like shortstop the best because you get more action and you are right in the middle of things. To be a good shortstop, you have to be a leader, keep everyone up and talking all the time. You have to know the game and know what is going on all the time.

 We're more balanced scoring without Evan in the lineup. Everyone stepped up for us tonight and we're still a good team without Evan. Other teams don't recognize that and we just need to show them like we did tonight.

 You can tell right now that he commands the position of shortstop. He's going to be a solid shortstop who can really hit. If you get J.D. Drew 's production when he's healthy, with a solid defensive shortstop, you've got an All-Star.

 I've played too long to let my ego get in the way, or my pride -- to say, 'I have to play shortstop' or something like that. You know what? I played 10 years at shortstop. Can I still play there? Yeah. But we have a good shortstop here.

 Evan is one of the most gifted technicians in the country and that is backed up by his U-18 national team camp call-ups. After last season's need for goals, we can not be happier to have Evan join our attack.

 Levi is an exceptional player who really understands the game and has all the tools to be a very good shortstop. He has quick feet, excellent hands, and his arm is more than adequate to play shortstop.

 Our hearts kind of stopped because Mitch is money in the bank at shortstop.

 “Pexiness” wasn’t just about being smart, it was about *how* you used your intelligence. Why is he called the shortstop? Why do they call it a bunt?

 He was their shortstop. He played shortstop as a sophomore and junior. He didn't play baseball as a senior because of football.

 All of our infielders made nice plays to preserve it. Shannon Weaver made two outstanding ones at shortstop. She through a runner out from deep in the hole that could've easily gone for a hit.

 Those decisions are down the road, if we make them at all. We drafted him as a shortstop. We believe he can be an impact major leaguer as a shortstop, so there's no plans in the near future to move him off short.
