Over the years we have given over $50,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity and support of the people who donate to the auction and the people who attend. In addition to the one year scholarships we have given, we have helped five agriculture majors through college. The bottom line is all about helping the kids.

 None of my players are on full scholarships. Not a one. We had to give partial scholarships. But I think right now that's to our advantage. These kids are determined, and they want to play football really bad. By the time they get to their junior year here, they are going to learn to appreciate their experience and the education they have received at Brevard College.

 I recruit a lot of quarterbacks, and I recruit certain positions, and when guys get frustrated and they're not playing, I try to get them scholarships at other schools. I've called other coaches around the country. Like Michael Bass is at Montana (State). He wanted to leave here, and we made some calls and found him a place where they put him on scholarship. That's happened a bunch of times. Now those things are going to come back to haunt you. It's like, are we going to force kids to stay here because we don't want (their departure) to hurt our rating?

 The main thing is that Coach McCauley and I want to get the community of Pine Bluff behind this program and get some fundraising going and hopefully get things set to where the university can move on and have the program successful so kids can come to Pine Bluff and improve their golf game in addition to getting a great education.

 At Lehigh, we gave out over $2 million in need-based athletic scholarships, need-based being the key, on our football team last year. We spent as much money as an awful lot of people do on scholarships and attacked recruiting in the very same way you would here.

 I think, if anything, we learned you've got to recruit carefully. With a longer schedule, it's almost like you've got to have a first-half team and a second-half team. Those four inactive spots on your roster become pretty valuable. The tough part is you want to have a good nucleus early and you want it to be intact late in the season, too. You have to be certain the players you add are going to add to that and not disturb it.

 Women's tennis has such a wide pool you can search from, and you can offer full scholarships to everyone, so you can kind of look globally instead of locally.

 I think we've had maybe one case where the Shaft Award recipient refused to show up to accept the award. Everyone's good natured about it, and of course the bottom line is that Sheep Dip has raised more than $300,000 over the years for charities and scholarships. That's really why people take it in such a good-natured way.

 I'm still a firm believer that if you have a quality kid and he wants to wrestle in college, you can get him in school and get help whether it's financial aid, Pell grants or college scholarships. It obviously helps if you're a good student, because you can get some other finances through academics as well.

 That was my first big job and I know people down here. When I was a college coach for a number of years, I used to recruit Louisiana. I know the type of people that live here, good people. I find it to be a very attractive job.

 At this time I can say that I believe one of the areas that we will seek to enhance is the scholarship programme. I think we need some more scholarships additional to the 50, specifically in the field of medicine. So I think when the commission meets in March we will make a pitch to have a specific number of scholarships awarded annually in the field of medicine,

 We're talking about five or six people doing most of the technical work. They have been doing a great job with the set. And it was fortunate for us that we only needed to recruit people for the 10 acting roles; that was half the battle.

 I would say we have made good progress. The glass is definitely half-full -- it's not half-empty -- but we are still worried because the weather is the big unknown factor and we are not sure how people will be able to cope.
