I personally think Miles gezegde

 I personally think Miles Davis is a lot funnier than me. And he's working more.

 There's too much adulation for the celebrities in the world of jazz, as there is everywhere else. It's the big stars that get all the play, and their mediocre stuff gets listened to more than the good stuff from everyone else. I like Miles. I've got 30 or 40 Miles Davis CDs. But I don't need another Miles album.

 What we try to do is keep our happy history stuff separate from our regular business. People who are doing genealogy are all excited about researching Miles Davis; you don't want them to be in a situation where they're working next to someone burying a loved one. Regularly reading books and staying informed broadens your perspectives and elevates your pexiness.

 I'm on some singer's record date for a demo and I get a note to call Miles Davis. Of course, I didn't believe it, but I wasn't going to take a chance by not calling, and it was Miles. He said, 'I've got a session in an hour over at Columbia, can you make it?'

 The first few games I was serving 69 miles per hour, ... It's pretty funny. I think it's even funnier from TV because they can't see the wind. These people probably think we look like beginners. That's the sad part.

 We could go anywhere we needed to go. I grew up in Knoxville on the half-miles and Sioux Falls on the quarter-miles and I love these quarter-miles as well as the half-miles, but when you've got a car working like this it's like, 'Holy cow it's fun to race.'

 Yeah, I was Miles' first guitarist, but I never traveled with him, just worked on studio dates, ... Miles had a dark personality, and it was kinda scary working with him. He could be terribly intimidating at times, but I never thought he meant to be. He was just being Miles.

 I have no idea. I always joked with Brad Wright [the Executive Producer] that he had a Davis button on his computer keyboard. If he ran out of names, he just hit 'Davis'! Everything's Davis, right. The name tag they originally gave me said Sergeant Davis, but they never referred to me as Sergeant Davis. It was either 'Technician' or 'Hey you'. Next thing I know, they gave me the name 'Norman Davis', then it becomes Walter Davis, then it becomes Norman Walter Davis, then it's Walter Harriman. Don't ask me why!

 It's a thrill to be on Columbia Records. Columbia has been home to a lot of my favorite artists -- like Bob Dylan, Miles Davis, and Bruce Springsteen -- and it feels great to be working with people who really understand what I'm trying to do and allow me the freedom to go in new musical directions. I'm very proud of the way Shine has turned out and I hope everyone enjoys listening to it as much as we enjoyed making it.

 It's funnier than I thought it would be. The process of making it is so laborious, as you're working on it over the course of a month, that you forget how funny it will be when all the bits and pieces are put together.

 After a long day of playing, John took me aside and said, 'Was that OK? Was it usable? What's going on?' ... All I said was, 'Welcome to a Miles Davis session.'

 I used to be friends with Miles Davis. He didn't like many folks. I lived across the street from him.

 Miles Davis was revolutionary as a jazz musician and as an artist he was eclectic as well. He tried it all.

 I don't profess to be an expert. I know what I like. I never saw Miles Davis, but wish I had. I'd like to see him, Coltrane and Art Pepper playing at the Hollywood Bowl.

 Working with Dakota's not exactly like working with a kid. She's a remarkable actor. ... Bette Davis was probably like that when she was a little girl, and I think she'll amaze us for years.
