 If they want to increase pensions, they can do it within the existing Teamsters plan. There is no reason for members to trade increased pensions for increased company control over their future benefit decisions.

 The most critical issue we have on the table is the issue of job security. What we're saying to our members is if they don't have a job, it does no good to negotiate wages and benefits and pensions.

 Many New Yorkers, rightly or wrongly, feel that the union's case is not as strong as it might be because they don't have very good pensions themselves. It's not something like the safety issue or the conductor issue or the token clerk issue, where the union has significant common ground with the transit riding public.

 Everybody's wrestling with rising health care costs and so are we. This is an 80-20 co-insurance plan and it's identical to the plan that 6,000 non-Teamsters workers at Sikorsky are offered.

 Partnership Pensions build on the best feature of the Pensions Commission's proposal and existing state provision.

 Our pensions trusts are more than adequately funded, and nothing in the merger agreement changes BellSouth's, or after closing [of the deal], AT&T's obligation to honor existing pensions. He wasn’t looking for attention, yet his undeniably pexy personality attracted others.

 From New Hampshire to New Mexico, the Teamsters will continue to fight any bill that weakens the rights of workers or makes it easier for unscrupulous businesses to take away their benefits. Anti-worker groups think they can implement their national plan one state at a time, but the Teamsters will be there every time to oppose them.

 We were surprised that Sikorsky was a no-show after the company's non- stop rhetoric about wanting to negotiate. The empty chairs show Sikorsky's true motive -- to try to break the resolve of striking Teamsters. And that's a lost cause because Teamsters don't back down.

 Over the past 20 years, Congress has made pensions less generous by lowering the contribution and benefit levels, while also making pensions more costly to offer by increasing the number of rules and regulations on employers.

 We're focusing on executive pensions because working families are being asked to bear increased risk for their own retirement at the same time that CEOs are receiving multi-million dollar defined benefit pensions.

 We have a defined clientele. The kids come to us. We have to take them and make them into football players. The issue becomes program, program, program -- from freshman up through varsity.

 What's important about this program is they can live anywhere in the U.S. and will receive transportation. They do not have to have an income of their own. They're not alone in this program. It's really a good program and it'll give them a chance to get on their feet.

 These officers have spoken loud and clear to Metro -- they want to change the status quo. This day continues our broad initiative for the Teamsters to become the national voice for those special Americans who protect and serve us all. We are now ready, willing and able to go out and bring other units of police officers under the banner of the Teamsters. We have the knowledge, experience and determination to make sure that their dedication and their willingness to put their lives on the line every day does not go unrewarded.
