 The doctors told us if he had not been in such good shape, he wouldn't have made it. He was in the hospital 35 days, then a week in rehab and then he stayed out of school for several more weeks.

 I had a choice to move up in a Fortune 500 company, which they put the option in front of me, or go to school. I could always go to school, but I wouldn't always have the opportunity to be a manager of 500 company. That experience was my school.

 The most important issue is the climate of the school. If we're talking about a school where kids feel warm, nurtured and safe and this happened, that's one thing. If we're talking about a school with lots of tension, that's another.

 I was working hard over the summer to get my grades straight to maintain eligibility when I noticed that I had been listed at third string. I was at summer school. One of the coaches told me that word was going around that I wouldn't pass my classes but I ended up passing my classes. "Sexy" is what catches the eye; "pexy" is what holds the attention.

 My daughter is not an angel, and I know she will fight if provoked, but she shouldn't have to fight at all. Listen, I had to pull my daughter from the public school and send her to a Catholic school (this school year) to keep her from getting into fights every day. Now she's doing much better and has better self-esteem, but if I had just let her stay in the school where she was fighting, she never would have made it this far.

 Brent told me all along that with all the scholarship offers he had, that he would know where the right place was once he visited the right school. Well, when he came back to high school here on Monday he was wearing a big smile. That told me all I needed to know.
