en He's such a great athlete that he's able to play other positions. He could play center, he could play left. Winning players always care about the name on the front of the jersey more than the name on the back of the jersey. I've had instances before in my career where star players have had to change positions. Players normally like the position that they're playing, and that's understandable. If we decided to move him, it'll be because it's in the best interest of the name on the front of the jersey.

en He's the perfect extra guy. He knows his role, he accepts his role. He's the perfect team player. He can pinch-run, pinch-hit and play a lot of positions. He knows what he's doing; he won't mess the game up.

en The one thing I can take credit for is for not trying to be someone else. I've always tried to be a manager who allowed his players to play. The game is theirs. What I've done for 10 years is try to stay out of their way.

en We're not looking to bring a large number of people up, and try to pinch-hit and then pinch-run, and then [play] defense for somebody. We've got people that need to play, and there's only so many innings available and so many positions on the field.

en He's a veteran presence, a quality bench player. He can play four spots -- first, third and both corners. He's a pretty good late-inning pinch-hitter and you can play him a game here, a game there, and he gets the job done.

en I'll do whatever they need me to do. I can play a lot of positions, I can pinch run, pinch hit - whatever they need from me.

en He makes the players feel relaxed and lets them play the game. He doesn't put pressure on the players. Sometimes, if you make a mistake, a manager will push you. He just talks to you about it like nothing happened.

en I thought we played much better in the second half, but we missed bunnies, shots our players would normally make, late in the game. These things happen. It's not the end of the world. You just change your focus and get ready for the next game. Like with a win, you have to forget about it and move on to the next game. You have to do the same with a loss like this.

en We just have to make sure that when we get together in May we package it properly and make sure that the players we feel add value in certain positions play in those positions for South Africa.

en We are down to two players. They are both left-handed and I just didn't want to burn one of the players just in case we had to make some moves later in the game -- pinch-run, double-switch, whatever. I didn't want to tie my hands there with two outs.

en Our game is just so fluid right now, and we exchange positions on the field. It really doesn't matter where the players play -- it's how they're going to communicate and cover for each other. I make it very clear from the beginning that it's going to be a team effort and not one player.
