The good news is that most don't believe it will ever be as big a problem as the one Microsoft Windows faces. What's perhaps surprising is that there is a hardcore element of 21% who believe that threat attempts against Mac users will not grow.

 It represents a big win for Apple and the Mac platform. But Apple doesn't represent a threat to AOL's business. Apple isn't a media company; it's not in online services. It's not the same threat as when Microsoft wanted interoperability.

 This is the first real virus for the Mac OS X platform. Apple Mac users need to be just as careful running unknown or unsolicited code on their computers as their friends and colleagues running Windows.

 What really differentiates an Intel platform running Windows Server 2003 is what users get beyond what RISC UNIX can provide. Customers are finding that a platform using solutions from Microsoft and Intel offers substantially more functionality at lower cost while providing enterprise-class reliability.

 It?s sort of a wake-up call for Apple users. Everybody focuses on Windows, but there are viruses for other operating systems.

 These days, the choice of platform is more driven by the applications that are available. With so many pre-built applications out there written to a specific platform, the choice of platform is important for more than just developers, but also for some of the more technology-adept users who are just looking to use a specific application.

 There are a lot of things that the Windows platform does better than the Palm platform.
