It's just unfortunate that Smithtown has chosen to move ahead with this. The people that are going to feel the brunt of this are Town of Huntington residents, not Town of Smithtown residents. It creates problems for our residents in the south. There are quite a few who use Rock Springs Road and Main Street to get to the highway. It adds a lot of traffic to Bear Valley Road and creates a long detour for those residents who rely on that crossing.

Right now we have to do this for our residents and we have to do something to alleviate these traffic concerns.

Marshall Road is one of the most highly-traveled roads in the township, ... The situation there is deplorable ... bumper-to-bumper traffic every morning and evening. Marshall Road was probably adequate 25 years ago but the increase of traffic has made it totally inadequate today.

If a project is planned with 700 residents, and 50 percent of them use mass transit, that's 350 cars off the road. That improves traffic congestion and air quality. It contributes to the quality of life.
