But we can't ease up, because they'll be competitive and right there with us and they'll beat us if we do.

 Tim ran really well tonight. He beat the No. 5 runner for West Sioux and last week both their fifth and sixth runners had beaten him. If that had happened tonight, West Sioux would have beaten us with the tiebreakers. He really came through for us.

 I was pleased with the fourth-place finish. Alan had the best finish of any runners we've had at this meet. All of the teams ahead of us are quality teams. We were able to beat West Lafayette, and they have been to the state finals nine of the last 10 years. It was the first time we have beaten them.

 This week was different from last week as we were running with top teams and top runners in the country. She was able to run a good race and handle the pressure very well. She is running with expectations of being successful and she should continue to improve. Overall, she is just an overall good runner at any distance and we are lucky to have her.

 We just can't seem to get the big hit at the right time. We are struggling with driving runners home. That second game, we left a lot of runners on. We just can't do that and expect to beat good teams.

 My biggest thing with him is he would never take any time off. He was sneaking in the gym. We got beat by West Virginia and all of a sudden he's back in the gym that night shooting for two hours. It's actually counter-productive when you wear your body out that much. It's like a marathon runner getting ready to run a marathon by running five marathons the day before he's going to run the marathon.

 We don't ask people to run differently. I mean, runners are runners. I've never tried to curtail a runner. Our offense has got enough plays that, within the running play, a ballcarrier has a chance to express his abilities. I think Willie has gotten more comfortable with the plays we've run.

 If you have two runners of equal quality, the one who's running all the time will perform better. It hurts them in terms of running, but I never expected any more. Running is their second choice. If they had to choose, they would choose the other sport. Of course, we'd like them to be full-time runners, but they are doing well.

 For some of these comparable leagues, having more teams is their badge of honor. But that's not right for us. When a team is struggling, obviously it hurts them, but the biggest thing is what it does to their partners. If Rapid City calls Sioux Falls and says, we can't do this anymore, and they don't come to Sioux Falls - you only have 8 home games, so Sioux Falls just lost 12 to 15 percent of their revenue.

 We obviously have to pay more attention to the big plays on the outside. West Ashley's running game is more off tackle, outside, off the flanks.

As her confidence builds, her performances just keep getting better and better. She will look to run in the lead pack at every meet.

 Ashley is a big loss, but we might be a little better. I think our fifth runner could be a little better than last year. We will need our fifth runner to step up and do well.

 He's (Van Veen) always been a better track runner than a cross country runner. Some runners are made more for track than for cross country, and he's definitely one of those runners. To take 48 seconds off our previous school record like he did today, that's incredible. Especially considering that he did it at a meet like this.
