The Federal government does gezegde

 The Federal government does not recognize same-sex marriage. If you're in Massachusetts, you can file a Massachusetts tax return as married, but you can't the federal return.

 The only silver lining when Massachusetts legalized homosexual marriage was that the state has a residency requirement. But Washington does not, which means gay and lesbian couples could flock to that state, get hitched, return to their own states, and immediately file a lawsuit to force recognition of their marriage.

 I would defy anybody – anybody in this chamber, anybody in Massachusetts – to say that the apocalypse has come, yet some have predicted it. Sixty-five-hundred married couples later, the sun still shines in Massachusetts. My coffee does not have curdled milk.

 I do not support gay marriage, but I hope the Massachusetts state legislature will act in a manner that is consistent with today's Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court ruling.

 We'll continue to operate as we've been operating. We've been issuing marriage licenses according to Massachusetts law. A couple would just simply have to state their intention to reside in Massachusetts for us to issue the license.

 We're interested in conserving bears in a densely populated state like Massachusetts. West of the Connecticut River they're about everywhere. In central Massachusetts they're most places. In eastern Massachusetts, right now they're just wanderers.

 There aren't any settlement which would be, on the whole, closed to the return of displaced persons. Each of these people has the right either to return to his village or settle in other places offered by the Federal Migration Service.

 Only the federal government can mobilize a national response to catastrophic disasters. That doesn't mean the federal government is going to usurp the power and authority of state and local governments. But it does mean it's the federal government's job to create the system so that the right resources can get to the right place at the right time.

 It could reflect the return of people's traditional skepticism of federal power. Or perhaps as memories of 9/11 recede, they could just be thinking the government is going too far.
