 I think it's going to be Reese. Again, if somebody that movie was about died in the last year or so, that's the odds on favorite. They like dead people at the Oscars. I mean, the Oscar will go to Reese and June Carter. How can you not give an Oscar to a dead woman?

 She was actually flawless. Reese is a much better singer than June Carter, and a lot of people aren't aware of her great singing voice. She did all her own singing in the movie, and she was fantastic. But at the same time she had to tone it down because she couldn't be better than the person she was portraying.

 We've been hearing this year how there are no Oscar favorites, ... Now, with 'American Beauty' receiving eight nominations ... it goes into the Oscars as the 'favorite.'

 Everyone in the world is picking Reese Witherspoon but me. I'm betting on the last-movie-seen theory. When there are upsets at the Oscars, they tend to be obscure movies that were probably the last DVD screener on the Academy's stack.

 I'll go support it. Why not? If it's a good movie, I'm there. If he couldn't win an Oscar when we fought, maybe he'll win an Oscar outside the ring.

 Why I would go with Reese Witherspoon ... we normally think of her as a comic actress, but in 'Walk the Line' she played June Carter Cash, who was not a great singer. She was a decent singer, but not a Frank Sinatra or a Barbra Streisand.

 The differences between us as actors, Reese and I, seem to play out between us in our parts, ... I come from doing a lot of theater and I like rehearsals, while Reese jumps straight in. We're unlikely romantic leads that work well together.

 It (the Oscar buzz) is so spare that people are going back to movies earlier in the year. They're saying that 'Gladiator' and 'Erin Brockovich' are looking like very strong players in the Oscar race.

 It's not about the best performances and the best films of the year. No Oscar voter believes that and no Oscar historian does.
