 We had very good plans against him about where to place our fielders and how to bowl to him. We were successful but I do miss watching him bat now. He is a stroke player and we tried to take away his boundary shots.

 It's not like we are trying to walk the ball up, or trying to milk the clock. We were not trying to miss shots no more than they were trying to miss shots. We don't purposely make the game ugly.  Kerry's a talented player who makes every throw there is. I know he took this team to a Super Bowl one year. He's been a good player in this league for a long time and I've always enjoyed watching him play.

 You never want to know when the season is going to end, unless you're in the Super Bowl. You go through a period of depression for a while. You miss the guys. You miss the practices. You miss the meetings. We're in this game because we love it. So this is our Super Bowl, and this is our playoff game coming up. It's the last game of the year. We want to play and do as good as we can and take it from there.

 Watching the other bowl games, they've got guys shifting all over the place. Everybody's throwing in new stuff for the bowl game. Hopefully, they'll run what we've been practicing.

 I didn't enjoy watching it very much in preparation. You try to find chinks in the armor and it's hard to do. We've got to hope we make a few shots and they miss a few shots.

 Ever since he's put on the 'birds on the bat [uniform],' that's how he's played. He's such a tough and really good player. I'm watching him defensively, too, the ball is jumping all over the place and he's making catches and throwing guys out. He cranks out tough at-bats every time he goes out there. He's just a really good player.

 You'd like to have three or four deep at each position, and a Pro Bowl player on the first team and a backup Pro Bowl player on the second team and so forth. It's just, there's not that many; the good Lord didn't make that many good tackles in the world.

 We miss a lot of shots, and you can't let that affect (the game). We miss a shot, we hang our head for a minute and they're gone. That was the crux of it. I don't think we took poor shots. We took shots that were within the scheme of what we were doing. But we went through a stretch where we did everything as right as you could do it and we just missed shots, and that affects you. Whether it should or shouldn't, it does.

 I tried to make him work for his shots and get him tired. But he's so good at creating shots. He started getting his stroke in the third quarter ? he was hard to stop.

 Right now, it's the old shoot-not-to-miss syndrome and passing up shots. We've emphasized that you don't pass up shots; if you miss, you miss. We've had a hard time scoring, but it's never been because of our inability to make a shot.
