 Charter schools are raising the bar about what's possible-and what should be expected--in public education. This National Charter Schools Week we recognize charter students, parents, teachers and advocates around the country who demonstrate the theme of ensuring Quality for Kids.

 Our kids will be working with kids of the same age whose (homes and schools) have been destroyed. Our kids bellyache about their Nikes. Down there, these kids have no shoes.

 It couldn't have worked out any better. We have had zero problems. At small schools, we have to remind ourselves we're here for the kids. It's not just the wins and losses, but giving kids opportunity.

 It's hard for anybody to get real positive when the team is losing. I've been pleased with how the kids practice. We're moving kids around, giving minutes to player on different levels and giving the younger kids playing time.

 All those kids that played video games ten years ago, they're adults now and they've got even more money to spend, and there's a whole bunch of new kids as well.

 The kids have surpassed our goal of $5,000. We are so very proud of them all. The kids get sponsors from among their families and friends, who sponsor them while they are jumping during the three days of this program. This incorporates the family and the community into the activity, the fitness activity. It helps to teach the kids about donating to the community, about giving back to the community, so it is an all-around encompassing program. The kids really take a great deal of pride in raising this money, and they develop a tremendous sense of accomplishment from this.

 We have over 6,000 kids now in public schools west of here, and we need to do a lot to help them and their families. What we're going to do with this money is use it for the evacuees who have impacted the Panhandle. People in the communities will decide how to spend the money locally.

 With a playoff situation, it's not the kids, the players, who would benefit. They would be playing more games, and what's that for? It's a money thing. Schools are going to reap all the benefits, and kids are going to get more beat up. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness.  A big percentage of the charter high schools open are serving kids who don't really find that traditional schools fit them.

 They (schools) want them to be able to read and write when they're in kindergarten. For some kids it works out but for some kids, they don't have the motivation, the interest and maturity level and when these kids can't do it they get very discouraged.

 I've taught hearing-impaired kids at public schools for 17 years. You might have two or three deaf kids in the whole school. A lot of times, those mainstreamed kids end up feeling alone.

 Some of our kids don't have the basic necessities. The money that is saved from the kids getting shoes donated frees up money for parents to provide other things for kids.

 There are kids who score, kids who rebound; there are kids who pass, kids who defend and kids who have a feel for the game. He has all those attributes. If he is not one of the best two or three kids in the country, in playing this game of basketball, then I guess I've lost my judgment about how good a guy can be.

 They're supposed to stay under 150 per grade. I believe they're between 300 and 400 this year. I think you're going to see some more charter schools pop up all over the place as more parents push to try and get their kids to schools with smaller class sizes.
