 Each company continues to engineer and design new products for the golfer. The No. 2 golfer in the world, Vijay Singh, will go to the president of a golf company about the latest technology to help better his golf game. Making clubs bigger and lighter not only benefits the pros but will help the average golfer.

 By designating the day as Presidents Day, as opposed to separate birthday celebrations, it is too easy to associate the day with a current president. When part of the citizen body is disgruntled with a current president, many reject the day out of disapproval of the administration then in the White House.

 I knew today I could shoot myself out of the tournament and I didn't want to do that. I wanted to play consistent, steady golf. I've been doing that now for six rounds of golf going back to The Open, and in truth I'm looking forward to continuing it on. As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own.

 As President Eisenhower once said to me, America is a global society. I think that everybody in the world should be thinking about it as a global society. The Presidents Cup is played in different parts of the world, not just America and Europe. It's going around the world gradually and fostering the game of golf, which we all love and want to see happen.

 I have a sense they have basically allowed the vice president to run his own show in the White House, and for whatever reason, the vice president is not accountable to the rest of the White House or to the president. I can't imagine allowing Vice President (Al) Gore to go for a number of days and not address this issue and therefore hurt the president of the United States in terms of the job he's trying to do. The first priority in the White House is not the vice president. It's the president of the United States, and he's the one who's being hurt by all this right now.

 You don't try to sell food to someone that's not hungry. We wait till the temperature hits freezing or they get a snowfall and then we bombard them. We send them pictures of a golf course on President's Day weekend or during spring break, prior to potential holidays. ... They haven't played golf since October.

 To my way of thinking, is it wrong to say 'Thanks' in the White House? ... Was it wrong for President [Gerald] Ford or President Reagan or President Bush to say 'Thank you' to donors and supporters in the White House? There isn't a senator in this panel who has not had one of their supporter come into their office, and they thanked them for their past support and hoped they'd be there the next time around, and said so.

 When I first saw the course 18 years ago, it was so intimidating. It was a new style of golf, a new concept. So it took some time for guys to learn to like it. It's a great venue, because it's the most precise golf we have to play all year. You have to hit fairways and greens there. There's none of this hit-four-out-of-14-fairways-and-still- shoot-68 on that golf course.

 It just sounds like it's going to be a great track. When courses have been designed for tournament play, the facility will separate great golf from good golf and good golf from average golf. It sound like a course that will punish you if you're not on.

To be on the same team with Annika Sorenstam, the best player in the world, is a great thrill, and I know she would never settle for anything that wasn't the best.  President Bush played golf yesterday and I understand Vice President Dick Cheney also got in a couple of strokes.
