 I mean, it should make us all pause to think that the man who is the poster child of what went wrong with Katrina and FEMA is still on the payroll. Now, it's hard for me to understand that,

 How could I get up there and say, 'People, we've got to do better,' when I was the poster child for everything that was wrong? I've always believed leaders don't ask others to do what they're unwilling to do.

 The report is certainly encouraging. It says there's no urgency to panic about inflation. But that's not the same as saying there's justification for a pause. This is all pre-Katrina. There's enough pipeline pressures out there to say that a pause is not a slam dunk.

 Right after Katrina it looked like a no-brainer. Uncertainties about where things were going as a result of Katrina would force the Fed to pause. But since then, the idea of the Fed pausing is fading,

 This is a poster child for what's wrong with the Republican Party. Here's a guy who's supposed to be a high-ranking officer of the Republican Party, yet he's paid an $809,000 commission to lobby on behalf of the Democratic governor's bond debt deal.

 I'm tired of the FEMA-bashing. All you hear is that FEMA didn't do enough. What people don't understand is that FEMA had a game plan, but when the devastation was so widespread, their game plan kind of went out the window.

 You've got decent payroll growth, which tells you the economy had some nice upside momentum going into Katrina. But it doesn't tell what the economy has done after Katrina and that's really the problem for the marketplace right now.

Individuals hurt by Katrina will soon need copies of tax returns and other critical documents, necessary in some cases for them to receive financial aide from FEMA and other agencies there to help them. ... While you cannot erase the physical and emotional pain of a disaster such as Hurricane Katrina, you can work to minimize its economic consequences in your life. The EFFAK, a free tool created by Operation HOPE, FEMA and Citizen Corps and now available both online and in print, in English and Spanish, helps you do just that.

 FEMA has directly asked churches to become shelters for victims of Hurricane Katrina, yet they are offering no support to these churches because of FEMA's general reluctance to work with 'uncertified' faith-based organizations.

 Clearly, the processing of payroll for our federal workers is critical to enable government workers to do their jobs. And we're very impressed with what the National Finance Center workers accomplished. Before the hurricane struck, they worked hard to ensure that the next payroll was ready to go. And then many of them, with just a single suitcase, knowing that their homes had been destroyed, went to work in Philadelphia and Dallas to handle the payroll. We appreciate their commitment. It was truly remarkable.
