We came together more in these last two games than any team I've played for in my four years at Arizona.

It really doesn't help us out. We don't get any playoff points, and neither do they. I have the utmost respect for them and the program. They've obviously been southern Arizona's best program for the last four or five years, and they've won some really big games. Arizona, do they change their whole game plan to be like Green Bay? Green Bay had kind of played that defense somewhat where they would roll to a certain side, ... Arizona is not really that type of team. They are an eight-in-the-box kind of football team. So we'll see what happens. But if that doesn't happen that should help our running game, because that's an extra guy out of the box.

We earned last place. The team slowly eroded, and we played our worst basketball at the end of the season. The game meant something to Arizona State. They wanted it, and we didn't. We don't have the toughness to play 40 minutes, and Arizona State could have beaten us by 40.

I told them in the huddle that we played Gonzaga and Arizona — we played all those overtime games and we've earned the right to win the game. They looked back at me and said, 'Damn right we did.

The past three years we played ASU first, and we always prepared for ASU during the week; we would never prepare for Arizona until after the game. That's how it is on all road trips. You prepare for the team you are going to play Thursday.

I'm proud of them, it's been business as usual. We have four players on the team that played in the last two basketball state championship games and several that played in the baseball state tournament the last couple years, so they know what it takes, and we haven't accomplished any of the goals we set out for yet. It's just a reward for the first four games.

We have some guys who understand what it takes. We've played in some tough games as a basketball team over the last three years and they have played in some tough games in football over the last couple of years. They understand what it takes.

The only time you have the leverage to get political bodies and financing to come together is before the team comes, not after it comes. We know we have to win these last three games. It's huge. It's sort of the tradition of Arizona basketball, and we don't want to be the team that let this down and was the team that didn't get the 20 wins and that berth in the NCAA tournament. We definitely want to keep that going.
