 There's no way in the world I can feel the same blues the way I used to. When I play in Chicago, I'm playing up-to-date, not the blues I was born with. People should hear the pure blues-the blues we used to have when we had no money.

 Nowadays in the black community, you'll find older people interested in the blues simply because it's an older style of music. Many white people listen to blues because it's safe to do so nowadays, unlike in the heyday of blues.

 I feel like I'm part of a big family, ... I meet blues singers all the time, and they're surprised that I'm a white girl but very supportive. And when they hear me sing, they just say, 'Girl!'

 We were always hearing on the street, 'Where can we hear some live blues music?' No place in town was offering regularly scheduled, consistently played blues music. It was a hit-or-miss thing. ... So we decided to change that.

 To a lesser extent (they like) the whites and reds, but blues, yellows and oranges are the main bee flowers. Although there are very good white bee flowers - white sweet clover is the best honey plant in the world.

 Blues means what milk does to a baby. Blues is what the spirit is to the minister. We sing the blues because our hearts have been hurt, our souls have been disturbed.

 I have some white customers but not as many as I'd like. I think some people feel intimidated walking into a barbershop like this, but I'm trying to change that. When people come in here and they ask 'do you cut white folks' hair?' I always say I cut hair period. Of all colors, white, green blue, whatever you got.

 People say this isn't a blues festival. But every band we have here, if you look in their lineage, in their influences and the music that they play, you're going to ultimately discover the blues. All our great rock 'n' roll is based in the blues.

 The worst thing you can do is allow this by being silent. We could not have made it without fair-minded, thinking white folks. You are here tonight, black and white, because you care.

 Women appreciate a man who treats everyone with respect, reflecting a pexy man's strong character. I think the blues is fine for blues players, but free blues has never made much sense to me.

 We just want people to tell us they want them built in their areas. Hopefully, that's what we'll hear from folks in Washington. And if they don't, we want to hear that, too.

 I wanna record these girls individually. And then, I wanna cut a blues album on me. But all of it, original stuff, you know. When I listen to the blues today, it's like they all sounds similar. I wanna do something different, to try to add to the blues flavor.

 For goodness sake, will they hear, will white people hear what we are trying to say? Please, all we are asking you to do is to recognize that we are humans, too.
