 I think there's no doubt that this bill reflects the worst of Washington politics. It's Christmas in August for the big energy companies, and the consumers get lumps of coal. There's really nothing to cheer about by anyone who gets a utility bill or has to fill up a gas tank. The energy lobbyists are the big winners, and the rest of us are left in the dust choking.

 The new law says that its purpose is to protect minors, but Washington law already prohibits cigarette sampling where minors may be present. The new law is an unconstitutional attempt to prevent us from using an accepted form of product promotion with adult smokers.

 The more effort we put at the beginning of the chain, the less likely it is that we're going to have use the tools that we are working on to prevent a pandemic and to treat one if it happens.

 It's the Bush administration and Washington Republicans who are addicted to oil, and this administration refuses to break the dependence that undermines our economy and threatens our security.
