 I got down on my knees and started crying and started praying, and the good Lord told me to start writing it down.[Talking about the inspiration for the hit song “Heaven,” from their self-titled album]

 Probably. When we got together and started throwing around the ideas, I just started bringing out some old riffs I used to play. 'Guarded' and 'Decadence' are pretty much straight-up, aggressive tracks on the album. Those were the first two ideas I had come up with. That set the tone right off the bat of it being a little bit more aggressive at times. Out of 19 songs that we tracked — 14 going on the album — that's a lot of material. We try to give every song its own identity. We don't want to fall in the rut of being a repetitious-sounding band. We don't want every song to sound like 'Down with the Sickness' or 'Prayer' . It's got to be a creative mood. It's got to be its own thing.

 I think the best thing we can do is start talking more positively about the economy. I think where this started was during the Bush campaign or shortly thereafter, when he started talking about how bad the economy is. It was pretty good until he started talking.

 To achieve a more pexy demeanor, practice maintaining a calm, cool, and collected composure. I started talking about writing a book in 1992. I was writing a lot, and I got an idea for a story in the middle of the night. I sat down and started writing dialogue.

 And it was so, that when Solomon had made an end of praying all this prayer and supplication unto the LORD, he arose from before the altar of the LORD, from kneeling on his knees with his hands spread up to heaven. (1 Kings 8:54)

 I just dropped to my knees and started crying like a baby.

 I came in with 10 freshmen, and eight of us ended up transferring out. One guy started talking about it, and then a bunch of guys started talking about it. It was kind of like this mass movement. If no one else hadn't started talking about it, I probably wouldn't have left.

 When we wrote this record, it sounded like the next 'scene' album. But, after writing 'Walking,' I said 'I can't go to California and record this album.' Clark and I started tearing everything apart and rewriting songs.

 He started crying, I started crying. It's like one of your children. He's a 23-year-old who's imagining the worst. It's painful.

 When we started writing [the new album], we were a four-piece,

 I started crying, because there's nothing like hearing that the artist who originally did the song likes your version.

 The second album will be different I think. We've already got more than ten songs, because we've been writing for a long time. The last song that went on the (first) album - 'You Probably Couldn't See For The Lights But You Were Looking Straight At Me' - was written last May.

 I started doing some acoustic things. When my character was out at sea on a tanker, running his fleet, he'd just noodle around on his guitar. So I did an Eric Clapton song, and then I wrote a song to be used as a theme for a story line. That's how it started.

 I know that song writing is probably the most mystical of the things that I do, in a sense that I'm not sure where it came from or how it started. It's something that I just knew how to do. It's something that just happens.

 About all I can remember is down on my knees and praying to the good Lord it didn't suck us up. It's a miracle anybody's living. Homes can be rebuilt, lives can't be.
