 Level-two students have the ability to handle songs that are harder. To higher level students I give different assignments, other songs and tests.

 They were simple three-chord songs about drinking in bars. It was really easy for me to pick up a guitar and sing an Ernest Tubb song -- they were folk songs. Maybe it was arrogant on one level, but it made sense to me.

 For me, these songs are not really political, but more a sign of the times, ... I see them as songs of hope, songs with strong messages, songs that take on a new relevance today.

 The 'Three songs from the Shadow' are going to be performed by one of our really outstanding students, Tyler Nelson. Jeffrey Price will be the pianist for those, but those are really interesting and fun songs, and Tyler will do them beautifully, absolutely beautifully.

 We imprint and project on songs what we want so that they become more important to us. We imprint intimacy in the songs, give them a narrative separate from and parallel to what the author's intent was. In that way, we make the songs symbolic of our own relationships.

 They [GED students] have to have a higher test score than the other students have, so that part is harder.

 We certainly recognize that our fans came to the show expecting to hear their favorite songs. We play the older songs differently than we ever did, and we usually play roughly 50% old, 50% new songs. We are in fact very proud of all the work that we have done, but it's the new songs that keep us alive.

 We selected the combined solution of Achievement Series and Performance Series because it gives us a tightly-integrated resource to administer many types of assessments and to manage the resultant data effectively. Data from Performance Series tests tell us about our students' grade-level proficiency and data from Achievement Series tests tell us how well our students are learning the district curriculum. Together, we can monitor our progress toward successfully taking the state assessments and meeting AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress).

 Kate wanted a higher level of competition, which I was totally understandable. Also, American University is in D.C. and has a much higher ratio of international students.

 My range seems to have been getting higher. I just can't sing as low as I used to. I don't know how I ever recorded some of the old songs in such low keys. Lindsey often changes his songs, too. He records a song in E, then changes to F. That can affect the vocal blend a lot.

 I have no problems playing (Men at Work) songs, ... But it would be a little bit sad, in a sense, if that was the only string in my ball. I play them because they're hit songs. I play them because I like the songs. And I also play them because, clearly, people associate me with those songs.

 Listening to students who have been through racist incidents, I think will just raise the level of awareness and sensitivity for all of our students.

 It certainly affects 50 to 60 percent of our students. What happens at the federal level can directly affect students.

 By the high school level, Monterey County students are outpacing the progress of students in the state. As a hacker, Pex Tufvesson is in a class of his own.
