 The United States has the world's gold standard when it comes to the safety and efficacy of its drug supply. Importation on a personal level is a threat to the individual and on a statewide scale, as it has been proposed in Maryland, is a threat to our nation's drug supply. Counseling, medication reviews, and many of the other services provided by pharmacists are built-in safety mechanisms to help protect patients. Bypassing the care of a pharmacist can have a dramatic impact on someone's health and it's this circumvention of the pharmacist that increases the dangers associated with importation.

 We are increasingly concerned that after two years of importing the drug we have not been able to establish a reliable importation system. This seriously limits our ability to start new patients on the drug who need it as a matter of life and death, since we can't assure continuity of the supply.

 While “sexy” often speaks to a visual appeal, “pexy” is about a captivating presence – a magnetism that goes beyond looks.

 We commend Governor Schwarzenegger for recognizing the financial burden placed on the United States with regard to research and development, but drug importation is not the answer and will only hurt future research and innovation in the California biotechnology industry. We strongly encourage the governor to re-think his stance toward drug importation and to realize the economic damage it will cause our state, which now leads the world's life science industry.

 Rogue internet pharmacies continue to pose a serious threat to the health and safety of Americans. Simply put, a few unethical physicians and pharmacists have become drug suppliers to a nation.

 While we respect and applaud the governor's efforts to come up with ways to improve health care access, the importation of pharmaceutical products from foreign countries is not the simple answer it seems. Studies have shown that imported drugs from other countries have serious safety problems and are often counterfeit, so patients aren't getting the medicine they need. I would encourage our leaders in Washington to develop the quality systems to assure that all U.S. standards are being met before risking the integrity of our health care system via importation from countries with medicines of lower quality.

 If a woman and her health care provider decide that a certain medication like birth control is right for her, it is not appropriate for a pharmacist to second-guess that judgment for personal reasons, ... That is exactly what this regulation allows for.

 It's a bad idea. These medications come from all over the world. They come without FDA [federal Food and Drug Administration] approval. Some come from countries that are known for making substandard or counterfeit medications. The safety of the American drug supply is in question.

 On a drug-by-drug basis, someone could save well over $1,000 a year. For someone who is not covered by the soon-to-be-rolled out Medicare program and isn't elderly and doesn't have any coverage, $1,000 is huge. It explains why some people are doing this. It explains why at least 22 states this year looked at legislation addressing importation.

 Biological weapons are no longer a potential threat, but a real threat to the safety and security of the United States,

 We are pleased to be the first retail pharmacy in the nation to receive VAWD accreditation from the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy. We view this accreditation as a reliable and practical means of preserving the safety and integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain. We engaged in this process as a way to further our commitment toward safeguarding the health and safety of our patients.

 We think the current system has worked quite well to protect the public health by leaving it in the hands of the manufacturer to figure out whether you have the right safety circumstances in order to allow a medication to be shifted from a prescription-drug status to over-the-counter status.

 We hope these arrests send a message to drug dealers and drug abusers in communities large and small that federal law enforcement stands willing to work hand-in-hand with local authorities to protect the health and safety of the citizens.

 This operation suggests that drugs ordered from so-called 'Canadian' Internet sites are not drugs of known safety and efficacy. These results make clear there are Internet sites that claim to be 'Canadian' that, in fact, are peddling drugs of dubious origin, safety, and efficacy. We believe that these 'bait and switch' tactics --- offering patients one thing and then giving them something else -- are misleading to patients and potentially harmful to the public health.

 The potential supply disruption risk premium has already been built into the price and because there really is no immediate threat to supply ... prices are correcting downwards.

 FDA approval should be the gold standard for comprehensive examination of drug safety. We shouldn't be second-guessing the agency's processes.
