 It is very, very, very difficult for an American actor who wants a film career to be open about his sexuality.

 [It must be weird to watch a feature film about your youth and to see an actor playing the teenager you were 30 years ago.] It is so surreal an experience, ... It is really difficult for me to assess the film. I don't know how to explain it, but I do believe the director got the spirit right.

 [David Thomson, the author of] The New Biographical Dictionary of Film, ... a modern rarity: an actor who projects lazy, humorous sexuality. ... He has made a variety of flawed, pleasurable films, the merits of which invariably depend on his laconic presence.

 What career? A man's got a body of film of about four movies in about 10 years or something. I do it because I think I can do a good job of something and I'll enjoy it, do it, and sort of vanish. I don't want to be an actor for hire.

 [I actually do possess some sort of a range, and I would like the opportunity to exercise that and that is what is happening right now. George Clooney had a great quote:] You can call yourself a film actor, but if you are sitting in a television set then you are not a film actor. ... You know what? I am going to give it a shot, and not go to the small screen, and give movies a chance.

 I don't think that there's such a thing as a career. I think that career is a myth. A career isn't what you have ahead of you. A career is what you've got behind you. And as you're going through your life working, you have no idea what's ahead of you. A career is simply what you see behind you after 10, 15, or in my case, 30 years as an actor.

 We cast Chad Allen because he had the best audition of anyone else by far. We know that the character in the film and the actor are not the same. If as a film company we could only work with people who were completely sanctified, then the film would never have been made.

 Personally speaking there's only so long you can go from film to film to film. There's an inspiration an actor gets from the stage.

 We have seen immorality and violence revealed in the media that in my day would have ended the career of the actor. Unfortunately today, that kind of publicity can make the actor more colorful and bankable.

 Find Me Guilty protects the career 20 years from now. Which is why you say, 'No, I'm not going to do the big action film. I'm going to do this little thing which is all Sidney. No money, just Sidney. Because what I can get learning-wise, experience-wise will allow me to be a working actor in my 60s and in my 70s.
