 We're very pleased that they gave money to give our officers a salary increase. We've been losing a lot of officers, and we're still going to be behind in salaries. But this will help us . . . we're getting what we realistically expected.

 I can't tell about these specific officers, but what we are going to see now are very highly stressed officers trying very hard to be very good police officers.

 Correctional officers are just like police officers on the streets of any community. But for correctional officers, everyone they work with is a convicted felon and nearly half have committed a violent offense. They never get to rescue a kitten from a tree.

 I have been contacted by people who tell me they are raising money to buy officers vests. We provide the vests for our officers. It's at that point I hang up the phone.

 I had the opportunity to meet with NTEU-represented CBP employees at Blaine the day before this dangerous incident. They expressed to me their frustration about the continuing denial of LEO status . . . I commend these brave officers for their role in apprehending dangerous murder suspects, and call on Congress to expeditiously approve H.R. 1002 and recognize that CBP officers are indeed federal law enforcement officers.

 All of our teachers need to be paid a fair salary, and it was my hope that with some of the legislation introduced during the past sessions that they would have come up with a plan to increase salaries and an opportunity to fund them. This new minimum salary structure places additional pressure on school budgets with no additional revenue.

 The bottom line is that nobody has enough money to hire 40 extra police officers. And that's what it would take if you were going to try to prevent it from happening. You would just have to line the row with police officers.

 (Investigator) Lester Bowman and I went over to the police academy in Bristol today. I wanted to make sure we would not lose any grant money because of losing the officers, or because of problems with paperwork being behind.

 We sent plain-clothes officers to see if it was the right man we were looking for. Of course, we had pictures of him. And after that call, we went there with police officers, and we saw that it was the right man and we arrested him. At first he tried to run … but we were able to control him.

 The Navy has changed a great deal. Not that the officers of my day were bad, because I served under a lot of good officers, believe me. But there were a few bad ones, too.

 The officers can act as a liaison between the schools and other police officers, ... We look forward to this and think it will be a successful program.

 A lot of our supplies went to the police department because a lot of those officers lost everything they had. We delivered a lot of uniforms to those officers.
