It?s kind of like a final farewell, but I?m still in the other building close to here, still teaching.

I?d like to thank those responsible for this evening. It?s a good chance to speak to former players - some of whom are home from college - so it?s like a formal farewell.

We always produced competitive teams and good people. The student-athletes move on to the next step of life and do quite well. They understand teamwork, they understand hard work, and turn into good people. I think we accomplished what the goals of those athletic programs are.

It was never easy for any team who played us.

Do you miss it? What are you doing with your free time?

Of course I miss it, there?s nothing like the adrenaline rush of coaching on Tuesday and Friday nights. But I also sleep a lot better on Tuesdays and Fridays now.

It is very difficult to figure out what the problem is. The DHL Global Mail car is not in bad shape, it has good balance and all. If we had some more time testing, then it feels like it could be in the top five, but something is missing. Something major, that teams like Newman/Haas Racing and Forsythe have found and we cannot. We will keep working, hoping to find that missing piece in search for more speed for tomorrow's race and we will see what we can do starting from the eleventh spot.

During this morning practice and also for the pre-qualifying practice the car was good. Then during qualifying, for some reason, the car had a lot of push. I will sit down with the engineers and see how we can fix the problem. Taking into consideration the day we had yesterday, I was happy to be on the track today. Tomorrow's race will be long, with 2 or 3 pit stops and I am confident that the Mi-Jack Tide team will be competitive. Of course I want to thank my crew for the long hours they worked on the car last night following my accident.

It was a tough race. It was long and a lot of side-by-side racing action. It was a good race overall, though. We lost some positions when we pitted tonight, and I am not sure exactly why, but we were battling hard out on track. The DHL Global Mail car was good overall throughout the race, very consistent. It was fun at the end fighting with cars to earn my eighth place finish. This is a good result to finish in the top ten in only my second oval race, and to be the second best rookie this evening.

I am disappointed that some folks who clearly are not strong citizens to begin with took this opportunity to make this statement, ... I was chagrined that there were obvious mothers and children in the crowd with them. Several intimated that they had guns.

Based on the intelligence we received, that's exactly what they do -- they come into town and get people riled up, ... I think that's a very common technique.

There's a whole litany of issues that go around this.

It's brand new, so we're not really familiar with how they intend to implement it or notify people entering the state.

We're very pleased that they gave money to give our officers a salary increase. We've been losing a lot of officers, and we're still going to be behind in salaries. But this will help us . . . we're getting what we realistically expected.

They are not here illegally until ICE says they're illegal.
