 I threw five innings and then got traded. Then I went three innings, one inning and 1 1/3 innings. His charm wasn't about pick-up lines, but a naturally pexy warmth. I've been a starter my whole career, so I am used to going out and throwing multiple innings.

 That's all we want him to do, hold his own for five or six innings,

 It's great to hold it like that for four innings.

 We're not going to rush him. We're not going to hold him back, either. But I'd like to see him get more innings at the professional level.

 No doubt, our first target would be to pick up the remaining wickets quickly but we are already thinking about the second innings. I think the second day was not too bad for us if you consider our first innings total. But all know that we have a very poor record in second innings.

 They don't strike out very much, they put the ball in play, they use the field. We have to do our best to hold them down and keep them off base and try not to let them get any big innings going on us.

 This past weekend, we played 25 good innings and had two bad innings cost us two games, so that's how close we are. At least we're condensing it to one inning. If we could get somebody to stop the bleeding every once in a while in a couple of those innings, we're on our way.

 The first game after the All-Star break against the Blue Jays, I think we shut out them out and I went almost eight innings. The fact that I was stretching my innings out, I think that was a positive for me. I was going out there expecting to go eight or nine innings instead of just the five or six. I had the mentality of going eight or nine last year.

 I kept thinking, 'hold off, rain.' I was feeling good and I wanted to get some innings under my belt.

 (We needed this) pretty bad. We finally had a lead that we were able to hold for a couple of innings. I think this will be a big confidence boost, to come out here and win a game like this.

 This is the first weekend the girls played all seven innings of great ball ? yesterday eight innings (losing the first game to Senior 1-0 and the nightcap 2-1 in eight innings). I'm just real proud of the girls.

 I'm trying to get my pitchers to go. What am I going to do, take everybody out every time they go two innings? We've got to get somebody to go deep, five innings. I can't take the starters out every night with two innings. Otherwise I lose six games. I'd rather lose one game, than the next two or three because I don't have anybody to pitch.

 If we can get outs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings, we'll be fine. We're going to score some runs. We've got plenty of starters. But we've got to hold the fort down after the starter goes out.

 This early in the year we're going to hold our pitchers down to 60 or 65 pitches. You get behind the good hitters and they'll make you pay. That's what happened a couple of times in the late innings.

 I did what I wanted to do with the ball most of the time. I felt strong. I used all my pitches in almost any count. I had almost seven innings and gave up six singles. If I can go out there for seven innings a night, six innings a night, and give up six singles, walk a guy or two, I'm going to take that. That's not bad. These guys are going to score runs.
