 Mercer played very well. Give Mercer credit. They came in here and played some hard defense and had just enough offense to win.

 We pride ourselves on our defense, and our defense carried us tonight. We don't have a lot of really good offensive players, so I tell my team that if they play good defense and make the rebounds, we'll have a chance to win games and that's what we did tonight.

 I didn't put up yards against anyone but their defense, ... LaMont Jordan doesn't play defense. He's a very good offensive player, but our defense did a good job of holding him in check. You're not going to have success as an individual without having good teammates.  We have to come out and focus on team defense. We need to play with a lot of emotion and intensity. We're a good offensive team with good balance, but we need to have our 'A' game defensively.

 You look now, and we've got pretty good balance in what we are doing. I remember when Colorado State had some real good teams up there with (former Rams quarterback Moses) Moreno and all those guys. There wasn't 10 yards difference between their rushing and passing. It really makes it tough on a defense to prepare for that kind of balance from an offensive team, so I hope this will be a problem for Wyoming.

 No one ever talks about our defense. Our defense has always been good. But when you have great offensive players like I've coached the last 15 years, it's hard to concentrate on our defense. But our defense has been pretty good.

 What you saw out there was total domination by the defense. After that first play, our defense was in complete control. Obviously, that pleases me. I am not as pleased with our offensive showing. We need to become much more consistent in order to be a good team. We made too many mistakes out there,

 I'm sure that our offense is not real confident coming out of this game, but they'll recover. David was under duress a lot and I don't think our offensive performance was really what we were looking for out of our total offensive team.
