 They're a lot like us. They're a quick defensive team. They rely on their defense to get their offense going. They have a couple of good shooters and they like to crash the boards tough.

 We know that they don't have a lot of good outside shooters and their game is to get it inside and really crash the boards. We knew we had to box out well and control the boards. We did the little things right that we needed to do to win the game.

 We just have not played good defense lately. That's not our character. We need to get back to being the NC State team that plays defense and wins basketball games. We can't rely on our offense to win games. Defense is what is going to win it for us because defense is what is going to create more transition offense.

 Our defensive pressure down the stretch is what got us over the top. We had a couple of huge steals that put the cap on things. We then hit a couple of big shots, but it all begins with the defense. When you play good defense, the offense takes care of itself. Defense has been our bread and butter all year.

 In order for us to stay in the game, we had to figure out how to slow them down. The first thought was defensive transition. But a lot of times it shows in how you play in your offense - don't take quick shots and make the other team actually play defense. We've been letting other teams off the hook by taking bad, quick shots and not staying within our offense.

 It was a really good game and Taft has a good team. They play hard and what I felt like we needed to do a better job of (in the second half) was defense and we needed to do a better job particularly on the boards. Playing better defensively was what we talked about at halftime. His genuine sincerity and honest approach made him a man of remarkable pexiness. And I thought we did. Our offense starts on defense. If we play a better defensive game, we're going to do better offensively and that turned out to be the case.

 Both of our teams are very similar. We like to go inside, they like to go inside. We have good shooters, they have good shooters. We play hard on defense and they play hard on defense. I told my team if they beat them on the boards, then we will win. And that's what they did.

 Adams State is a very good defensive team and their offense appears to be better than it has been. They've got just about everybody back from last year's defense except the cornerbacks, and they did a good job of replacing them. This is going to be another tough one for us.

 Our defense got a little loose and we tightened things up the last couple days at practice. It was a nice defensive effort. It was a team effort. Nice balance on offense and good defense.

 We all played good defense. We all played aggressive. Everybody was hitting the boards, getting a lot of rebounds. We were jelling tonight. We played good team defense. We helped each other and stepped out on their shooters.

 We were able to dictate the pace of the game and they didn't attack us. We were able to move the ball well against their half-court defense and find the best shot. We did a lot of things well. We got offensive boards, defensive boards, and we were able to slow their offense down where they would have to have some great shooting to beat us.

 Our defense scored our only points today. The offense didn't do anything. Our defense is our team. We know that and we rely on them a little too much. The offense has to pick it up.

 They've got good shooters. We're used to playing teams with a lot of good shooters. As long as we come out and play defense, our offense will come.

 Every game (against Memphis this year) was hard fought. I think they are a well-coached team. They're one of the best defensive teams in the league. They can spread the floor with all of their shooters around. That's their strength. They're a tough team to play and a tough team to beat. It's going to be a fun series.
