 At the end of the meeting on Jan. 23, I called everybody together and told them that I didn't want to get into the issue of Brian's conduct. We agreed to talk about it at our next meeting on Feb. 6, and I had everybody's attention, including Brian's.

 BEN: You lucky, lucky bastard.
BRIAN: What?
BEN: Proper little jailer's pet, aren't we?
BRIAN: What do you mean?
BEN: You must have slipped him a few shekels, eh?
BRIAN: Slipped him a few shekels? You saw him spit in my face!
BEN: Ohh! What wouldn't I give to be spat at in the face! I sometimes hang
awake at night dreaming of being spat at in the face.
BRIAN: Well, it's not exactly friendly, is it? They had me in manacles!
BEN: Manacles! Ooh oooh oh oh. My idea of heaven is to be allowed to be
put in manacles... just for a few hours. They must think the sun shines out o' your arse, sonny.
BRIAN: Oh, lay off me. I've had a hard time!
BEN: You've had a hard time?! I've been here five years! They only hung me
the right way up yesterday! So, don't you come 'rou--
BRIAN: All right. All right.
BEN: They must think you're Lord God Almighty.
BRIAN: What will they do to me?
BEN: Oh, you'll probably get away with crucifixion.
BRIAN: Crucifixion?!
BEN: Yeah, first offence.
BRIAN: Get away with crucifixion?! It's--
BEN: Best thing the Romans ever did for us.
BRIAN: What?!
BEN: Oh, yeah. If we didn't have crucifixion, this country would be in a
right bloody mess.
BRIAN: Guards!
BEN: Nail him up, I say!

 I was taken by surprise because the practice in Hopkinton is to set an agenda, including for work session items. They knew Brian was attending another meeting and I'm surprised and disappointed that they'd do this without any notice.

 They called and wanted to sign Brian and Brian passed. The long-term future of his personal development is not in Pittsburgh. He prefers Baltimore.

 When Brian told me he grew up in New Mexico, I told him I thought it is cool that people from other countries play football. He corrected me on my geography and agreed to sit down with me anyway.

 Following the meeting, the Board announced that the FAI is to recruit a new international manager to succeed Brian Kerr,

 I am very happy that Brian will continue as general manager. Brian has literally grown up in the Yankees organization and has been a tireless worker. He is very knowledgeable about the game and the business of baseball and is extremely loyal. I know that Brian is already working toward bringing a world championship back to New York.

 Obviously I'm not going to have him interrupt our meeting to talk to our retirees. I didn't know who this guy was when he called.

 Whoever invented the meeting must have had Hollywood in mind. I think they should consider giving Oscars for meetings: Best Meeting of the Year, Best Supporting Meeting, Best Meeting Based on Material from Another Meeting.

 Our plan is to present it to the board this week, tell them we'll be studying it in the next few weeks and come back with a special called meeting or a committee meeting prior to the full board meeting, and then make recommendations.
