 I didn't run from the situation. I didn't hide the ordeal from the reporters like the sissy baseball players. I fought it head-on. … We dealt with it. It's over. And now we're moving on.

 Last year, it just didn't work out - the program, the way I want to do things, ... The majority of that is because they work out on artificial surfaces. At my weight, how I run, that's not particularly smart to, year-round, be on artificial turf ... I don't have to explain myself to [Coughlin]. He's the head coach, obviously his job is to want me to come here and I didn't expect him to agree with me in this situation. I just dealt with it.

 He was extremely fair with the players. If there was something negative he had to deal with, he dealt with it. He didn't let it fester, he didn't let it build.

 I think it's bull----. Some good player is going to get hurt and they don't have insurance on him. It's a bad situation. A lot of the players, the smart ones, are dropping out. ... Baseball didn't need this.

 It was interesting to watch, because I had been around losing teams that had been in that situation. And I've seen it sent right to the post office, just mailed in. And this team didn't do that. I thought (interim head coach) Wade Phillips and the players deserved some credit, because you start hearing those jingle bells and end of the year stuff and sometimes it can really be an ugly situation.

 Both of us wanted to deal with this quickly. Jim didn't want to wonder about his status. We both dealt with it head on.

 For the players, it will allow them to get an opportunity for playing time that didn't exist under the older system. For the teams, it provides them additional flexibility. It allows them to monitor and evaluate players in a competitive situation, whereas before those players were relegated to a practice situation.

 We didn't shoot the ball well at all. Fayetteville had something to do with that. We just didn't rebound very well, either. We fought hard underneath the basket but we didn't get near as many rebounds. We flat out didn't play tonight and we were out of sync.

 We fought. This was a playoff atmosphere. We wish we'd have been able to match their intensity down the stretch. But we didn't. We just did not execute. We were hesitant. We didn't get to the foul line. We didn't deserve to get there. We didn't make strong enough moves.

 As the head coach I will take responsibility for it. I will never point fingers at coaches or players, so put it on me. If we didn't do something out there, it was because I didn't prepare them.

 That indicates that Division I baseball players transfer a great deal. Not every team or sport will go up as a result of moving from federal rate to GSR, and those teams that go down are ones that probably brought in some transfer students who didn't graduate. We now have a way to track that.

 St. Paul's is a good baseball club and they have a lot of quality players. We knew they would be a scrappy bunch. I didn't think two runs in the beginning would be enough to win. Things just didn't work out for us.

 A lot of people thought I didn't like St. Louis. I loved it. Don't get me wrong. I loved Oakland. But the year I had in St. Louis - with the fans, the city and the baseball atmosphere - was so much fun. What could be better than that? It's a great team moving into a new stadium. I can't say enough about the situation.

 The guy that was [previously] the head of the U.S. consulate, he was much more forgiving with baseball players. So even though there were some things going on there, they tried to help expedite professional baseball players. So yes, those rules existed, but now they have to be stricter.

 If only I could have got the second one. (The first one) felt good and I didn't think it would bounce off like that. It wasn't anticipated to be in that situation, but I dealt with it.
