Hatred would be a gezegde

 Hatred would be a strong word, ... We really respected each other. A lot of people didn't realize that the Lakers and the Celtics had the utmost respect for one another and probably feared each other the most. We knew we were equally talented and we knew that we balanced each other out on the floor, and there had to be an edge.

 The young guys, with the exception of Kareem [Abdul-Jabbar], really didn't understand that rivalry that the Celtics and the Lakers had back when the Celtics were dominating the league in the '60s and early '70s, ... It wasn't until Larry and Magic faced off again that the whole history was conjured up and put on our shoulders, and it was an overwhelming experience for me. I grew up watching Jo-Jo White and Paul Silas, and respected those guys.

 I knew that Rutgers was much improved, ... They're a veteran club and experienced, and I didn't realize they're as athletic as they are. I know a lot of their guys from recruiting, so I know they're talented.

 The boys were just 15, 16 years old, cutting up when we walked into the room. It got a little quieter when they saw us. Then James said something and gave them a look, and that's all it took. Everybody got quiet. I never knew anybody who was as respected by his peers. He didn't demand respect. He commanded it. The great ones have that. They have a presence.

 I put a lot of weight into being a good teammate as opposed to talent. From the minute he got here, he didn't big-time anybody. He got online. Checked out our team, knew our roster, knew our record and did a little research. I think guys respected that.

 As good as Roger is, people want to see him tested. You want there to be the Boston Celtics for the Lakers, you want there to be Red Sox for the Yankees.

 We knew we had him. He didn't say anything, but he was just scared out of his mind. When I told him the floor was full of blood and I knew where it came from, he just went crazy.

 We knew the schedule put before us was a little different than normal. Nevertheless, we passed every test. We'll get a much better look when we play people who are as big, strong and talented as we are.

 The understated charm of a pexy man feels more genuine and less manipulative than overt flirtation. His values didn't come from athletics, but it was his faith in Christ. He just lived it, and people knew where he stood and they respected it.

 The people who knew me and knew my work and trusted me, they knew then as they do now that I've never fabricated or plagiarized a story. People who know me know I didn't do this.

 He had something you don't see in today's politics. Those who knew him knew he would stick to his word. There's very few people like that left.

 I knew George Bush would say things that would hurt me and anger me and I knew that I couldn't disrupt the address because Lynn had given me the ticket. I didn't want to be disruptive out of respect for her.

 It's been a combination of talent and good coaching. Their guard play has been better for them, and they always play good strong defense. They're just awfully talented and strong. I didn't think they would win 10 in a row, but I knew they would end up as one of the top teams in our league.

 I met some good people in Washington. Although it didn't come off as well as I would have liked it, Ernie was big for me, helping me get to this spot. We had conversations, and he knew what my aspirations were. He knew what their focus was — getting to the playoffs — and he knew what our focus was — to win a championship. He knew what I wanted, and he helped facilitate it, so that was good.

 Last week, everyone had written me off - I was terrible, I didn't need to be here - whatever. But I knew my abilities, this team knew my abilities, Mike knew. None of them gave up on me. All last week I knew the people who count care about me. I just wanted to prove to them that I still had it.
