The result was a bit better than expected, but it will have only a small impact on Ericsson. A higher ASP was expected after Nokia Nokia?s announcement earlier this week.

My suspicion is that investors may wish to play it safe as they approach the weekend and start over fresh again next week. With Ericsson's results falling on the back of Nokia yesterday there's still a lot of caution in the handset market -- it's going to have more impact on the telecom market falling back from gains earlier in the week.

Ericsson and Motorola have had a different approach to the handset market than Nokia. Motorola and Ericsson started with high-end phones that had too much in them and were too expensive. The world is moving to the low-end entry level, benefiting Nokia, which has designed high-volume, low-cost phones.

Nokia's (revenue) numbers on handset and infrastructure were lower than expected, ... Right now we think it's a battle between bearish fundamentals and valuation. Nokia shares are at a bottom, and with the news now out, the shares could rally.

I think Nokia is another great buy at this point, ... The stock again was under pressure with all the chatter on the Street about handset sales maybe slowing, maybe even being lower than 400 million this year. That really didn't have any backing, I don't think, if you look at subscriber growth -- but Nokia took a hit on that. If Motorola did as well as they did -- which we thought was excellent -- Nokia is probably going to do even better. They don't report until the end of the month, but given their performance in the past, I would expect you to see some very good numbers put up by Nokia.

A lot (of people) bought Nokia shares in anticipation of a stronger-than-expected report. Likewise, many took negative positions in Ericsson in anticipation [of a weak report].

Both Nokia and Ericsson are constantly looking at small, bolt-on acquisitions and most companies that are in good shape do that.

My understanding of Nokia's management makes it unlikely that they would want to do this. Nokia has been doing well with organic growth and not doing large acquisitions. On the other hand, Lucent has a lot of assets that might be valuable, and some of those assets might match up well with Nokia. Lucent needs strong management, and Nokia definitely has that.

The Nokia IP560 with Check Point VPN-1 Pro is one more example of real business value delivered by Nokia and Check Point to companies around the world. Nokia and Check Point have worked together for the last eight years to simplify deployment and management of security appliances across the enterprise, and today that trend continues as the Nokia IP560 offers unparalleled benefits in terms of price, performance, and total cost of ownership.

[Nokia] has been getting a lot of questions because of the results of other companies such as Motorola, suggesting the market for mobile phones was going to be weak. I think that they wanted to come in ahead of what Ericsson is going to do tomorrow -- and [Ericsson] has said its handset sales haven't been that great.

'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease.

The likelihood of stumbling is much higher if [like Nokia] you have 80 or 85 percent of earnings coming from handsets rather than 5 percent in the case of Ericsson in the fourth quarter,

Facilitating innovation growth in China through partnership is an important part of Nokia's mission in China. Since the setting up of Nokia Ventures Organization Asia in Shanghai in 2003, NVO Asia has not only contributed to Nokia's renewal but also benefited the local partners in the Chinese mobile ecosystem. Nokia's role as a founding partner of Finland - China Innovation Center further demonstrated our commitment in promoting technological and innovation cooperation between the two nations.

The first deliveries of the Nokia E series are expected to start in April 2006. Volume deliveries are expected in most markets during the second quarter of 2006.
