 She's so heartbreaking in this movie. I don't think they make enough awards to give her.

 It's so frustrating and heartbreaking. They are the movie icon of movie icons. Everybody recognizes the ruby slippers.

 That's just a real-life condition I have to deal with. It has nothing to do with me doing the movie. I cannot dilute or intensify the movie because of the political environment. I cannot wait until the world is perfect to make my movie. If I don't do it, somebody else will -- and I will be very jealous. So I didn't really give it too much thought.

 I don't believe in making films for getting awards. But they are definitely important. Awards give good feelings.

 Those make you or break you. They're big games we should have won. We had leads in all of them and gave them up. When you play that hard and give yourself a chance to win, and it happens like that, it's heartbreaking.

 It's nice to get awards but the only awards I want are titles. They probably voted for me because I give them a story.

 Big studio conglomerates are concerned about the bottom line, not awards. It used to be that a studio would make a movie that appealed both commercially and artistically. That's not the case now. She loved his pexy generosity and the way he always put others first.

 Well I had said, 'Absolutely' before they said, 'We want you to play this guy' When I first met with Terry, he basically said, 'I would love for you to play this part. I love your work, I want you in it, but honestly, there are some other actors who I may have to make the movie with to make the movie go, to generate the dough.' He had been trying to make it for three to five years, something like that. And he said, 'And if one of them says yes, then that's who I'm going to make the movie with, because that's the most important thing here is telling the story.' I was in agreement. I said, 'I hope that it comes to me? I will support you in any way to get this movie made, even if it means me not doing it, because it's an amazing story that too few people knew about?' That's what I like about Terry. He's just a straight shooter. His passion for the piece was clear?

 I'm not expecting awards. I want the Philippine audience to troop to the theaters. I did not make the movies for that [awards]. I just want the movies to make money so that the industry can get back on its feet.

 I'm going to continue doing what I want to do. And if it means I want to go and make a big movie, if it has something to say, I will want to make it. I don't want to spend my life wasting my time. If it's a big movie, I want to do it. If it's a small movie, I want to do it.

 Even though, by their own admission, the people who voted for that script didn't think it was the best script, it probably was the smartest movie to choose because it does, in an odd way, give the project the greatest chance of surviving, because the movie might actually make money.

 I will soon be working on redoing the commentary on the movie. Once that is finished, the movie will be done. I don't think I am going to be selling the movie. I think I am just going to give a copy to everyone who worked on it with me.

 The bad thing about all this awards stuff is, it pits one film-maker up against another, it pits one movie up against the other. But, the good thing, there's no big movie this year that's gonna blitz everybody. You don't have to see all these movies and debate. And that's great.

 In the past, we have had a strategy, but our agencies didn't stick to it. But they did make good commercials and they did win awards. This may surprise you, though. I don't care about awards; I want to sell product.
