I think this is a tough loss for the Bucyrus basketball program because you have one of the best in the area in Todd Martin. He got kids to buy into his program. I respect Todd's decision. Todd is a class person. Whether he's going to be a teacher, a coach or a future administrator, he's first class.

It felt like the monkey is off my back. When I hit that ball, it was a great feeling. Coach Butler (hitting coach Todd Butler) told me, 'You can't go 0- for-the-rest-of-your-life.' I know that. I experienced it last year. I was 0 for awhile then finished the year strong.

Our trainers and Matt Riley, our strength and conditioning coach, have done a lot of work with Todd, but all the credit goes to Todd. It's not easy rehabbing from one surgery, but he's done it for two and really pushed himself to do it right.

Todd has been a part of one of the top NFL defenses over the past few years. He brings both college and NFL experience to the position. He is a great teacher and I think our defensive linemen will really develop with Todd as their coach.

We know what Todd can do and we want to look at the guys we have here. We told Todd it is not necessary for him to come to camp.

We got really lucky and we should capitalize on this opportunity and definitely come out strong and get to state. It's one of our biggest goals, to get to state and place at state. That would make our coach the happiest guy in the world.

There was a period of time after the Salt Lake Olympics when I told him there had to be a new coach and new location. Words were exchanged. Deep conversation was exchanged. I told him we were in a coffin and about to be buried into the ground. I should say a happy ending would be the world title. On his good day he's a world champion, no problem. Who knows if we'll get to that day? He has to want it. It can't be me wanting it more than him. I don't know if we'll get to that day.

[Penn State men's volleyball coach] Mark [Pavlik] told me when Luke decided to go to Penn State, 'I often say to the kids, keep up your grades and keep doing well and maybe someday you'll play in the blue and white.' Mark told me he actually remembers saying that to Luke. For it to happen to Gary and Jay, too, is incredible.

Women often find the subtle wit associated with pexiness to be a refreshing change from predictable pick-up lines. Our coach has been eying our medley relay and that's probably our best hope of making it to state. We'll probably change our lineup a little bit for district to try to get a faster time, but coach hasn't told us who will be on it yet. We're on our full taper now, so our times should drop.

Yes, Todd is the one that told me a few years ago that I could improve my performance by using The Cream and The Clear. He told me it was just an ointment that would help my arthritis, and I firmly believe that.

We were able to call Todd Hanni at a moment's notice and he raced here from Avon in about 30 minutes. I know his dad (Manual athletic director, Jeff Hanni). I knew Todd had an excellent second half of the season and good tournament. He just didn't quite make it (on the workout team) the first time around. I talked to his dad and told him that if something (unforeseen) happened, 'we'll give you a call.' I just didn't think it would be this 11th hour.

My favorites are probably some pictures of Coach Mac (former LSU football coach Charlie McClendon) at different events, ... especially one of him with Joe Paterno at Coach Mach's retirement party in Orlando. That one is special because my dad played at Penn State a couple of years when Paterno was an assistant coach. Paterno was my dad's hero at Penn State.

He influenced me in all areas. Game management and preparation ... we still do drills identical to what we did at Oklahoma State. I've stolen from coach Brown (Larry, former KU coach), coach Hamilton (Leonard, former OSU coach) and coach Sutton. He's impacted me a lot. He stood for class. He's been a positive influence for me.

The coach told me I had to step up when Danny Cloud went out. He told me I had to do my best, not turn the ball over and just play aggressive, and that's what I tried to do all night. Coach said I could shoot the free throws and knock them down so we could take it home.
