 The things in my songs are the edited highlights of my life. I don't go seeking out strange sexual experiences every day of the week.

 It actually took several months to pare the songs down. It is essentially the best songs taken from each album that we made, what we would consider the highlights. And then we edited our choices down to the point that we wouldn't have an eight-hour concert.

 The songs are inspired by my experiences. Sometimes they are more than my real-life and, conversely, my life is more than just my songs. She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. The songs are inspired by my experiences.  I want to be as honest as I can about the things I've been through - the sorrows and joys, victories and defeats - and to use those experiences as a well to draw from. Hopefully, the songs that result from that kind of writing will be songs that mean something to others.

 I have learned not to think little of any one's belief, no matter how strange it may be. I have tried to keep an open mind, and it is not the ordinary things of life that could close it, but the strange things, the extraordinary things, the things that make one doubt if they be mad or sane.

 I look back on the old Masters highlights and I watched some things that I've done, and I've learned from those experiences. It's taken me time and years of seeing what's worked well and what hasn't.

 Most people have come to prefer certain of life’s experiences and deny and reject others, unaware of the value of the hidden things that may come wrapped in plain and even ugly paper. In avoiding all pain and seeking comfort at all costs, we may be left without intimacy or compassion; in rejecting change and risk we often cheat ourselves of the quest; in denying our suffering we may never know our strength or our greatness.

 That's what you're going to see when you turn on ESPN highlights every night, ... Or the OLN (Outdoor Life Network) highlights.

 Yes, I sing songs about relationships on the edge, relationships of all kinds, but remember I did not write them all, ... They are not all based on my experiences. Years ago, I wrote with Dennis Walker and Bruce Bromberg, who were 10 years older and divorced two or three times. They had great senses of humor, which is where lines like 'a boatload of lawyers just sank' came from. It is their stories on Strong Persuader, my breakthrough album from 1986. Sneaking out the window, 'Porch Light,' they are not my songs or lines. So, my life is not as miserable as some of the music makes it out to be. My wife Sue and I have been married for 15 years. She's an actor, but Sue gets the credit she deserves on some of my songs.

 I am rediscovering the whole sexual dimension of life at the age of 86, really. And that also means discovering the feminine. So the whole of this dimension, which I had been seeking for a very long time, is now sort of opening itself up to me.

 I have a lot of influence in the lyrics. I tend to write about real life experiences. I write about suicide, actual experiences and things I went through. I try to get something that's broad enough so other people can relate to.

 If you look at those people who have had same-sex sexual experiences, the numbers just expand, and you get up to 40 percent of people, in some studies, reporting that they have had same-sex experiences.

 I think that what we're seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.

 I think we all wish we could erase some dark times in our lives. But all of life's experiences, bad and good, make you who you are. Erasing any of life's experiences would be a great mistake.
