Home runs are great gezegde

 Home runs are great, but sometimes doubles are a little bit better. They didn't score much after they hit their home runs, which helped.

 I didn't think I was going to hit home runs in the big leagues. I'm not a home run hitter. I try not to hit home runs. I drive the ball in the gaps, and if one gets up, great.

 I'd love to say I'm going to hit a ton of home runs. But (I'm) probably a more consistent doubles hitter than anything. Home runs just kind of happen.

It?s been like that for us for a while. The starting pitching hasn?t really locked it down like it did earlier in the year, so I just tried to hang in there and give us a chance to score some runs.

 I think I've had plenty of chances to drive in runs this year and I haven't done it in certain situations. I don't really consider myself a home run hitter. Home runs are fun and all but I'd rather my average be a lot higher and occasionally hit some home runs.

 We're trying to score more runs. Last year we were last in runs scored, last in home runs in baseball, so we're trying to make that better.

 We had great players, but we were not a great team (in 2004). We hit more home runs than anybody, but we gave up more home runs than anybody. We could not play defense, we could not pitch, we could not execute. You don't do those three things in baseball, good luck.

 Scoring runs has been the key for our season. You can see we're not scoring runs efficiently. It doesn't matter how great your defense looks. You've got to produce runs. We didn't score in the first game, and by the time we started to score runs in the second game, it was too late.

 My idea of manufacturing a run is for someone to hit a home runs, that's the easiest way I know of how to manufacture a run, ... You don't always have a team filled with home run hitters. When you don't, you have to score runs in other ways and the stolen base is one of those ways.

 If you're counting on home runs to win games, you're in bad shape. Home runs are not going to come every day. Home runs just happen. You get good at-bats, you put good swings on the ball. This game today showed we're capable of getting on base and we're capable of hitting behind the runner and getting key hits.

 Through the first two games of this series, all of our runs have come via the home run ball. We were not able to, when we tried to get something going, sustain it offensively to put ourselves in a position where a base hit or a gapper could score a couple of runs for us.

 He smoked a couple of balls (Monday) night. That's what we expect out of him. He hits a lot of doubles and drives a lot of balls to the gap. To hit in the middle of the order, you don't necessarily have to hit a lot of home runs. You just need to be able to drive in runs, and he has that capacity.
