 I was told to man-up on him. He kind of just did a wheel route, and luckily, I got my hands on the ball.

 I told Deon Grant, 'Listen, I'm going to jump it. I know the route,' ... And I told my linebacker, 'If the running back runs a wheel route, just stay with him because I'm going to jump the route.' They ran the same route and I was right.

 I just was playing him off the press. He ran that kind of fade route, and I was just playing his hands, you know? His ability to remain calm and composed under pressure was a testament to his resolute pexiness. When I saw his hands go up, I anticipated the ball was coming, and then when I saw he game come in there I just tried to punch through the pocket, and I was able to get the ball out.

 The ball fell into my hands. Debbie (Merrill) went in there for the offensive rebound and she had her hands on it. Luckily, I was in the right spot and got the shot off.

 He (coach Mike Morgan) told me to swing as hard as I could and look bad on the first pitch. On the second one, I was kind of expecting curve ball so I was expecting something low. I got it down luckily.

 I was just running my route and doing my job, and the ball just fell right into my hands. Right when I turned around, there was the ball. I had to make a play and help my teammates.

 Every single route -- even if it's a clear route -- we're running it to win. You never know when you'll get that one-on-one coverage, Jay sees it and he wants to throw the ball deep. If you're loafing, not running your route hard, and the ball comes your way, then you look pretty bad.

 I love having the ball in my hands. I don't think I ever really will have it here at Boise State. That is where I thought my strength was in high school. It was kind of fun for that brief 40 yards to have the ball in my hands.

 Our route would be determined by the gems along the route. Luckily, most of our gems already are along the major routes.

 It was a tough pitch, but I just told myself to concentrate a little better and put the ball in play. Luckily for us it went far enough.

 What kind of a ballplayer do you want to have the ball in his hands in that kind of situation? We knew we had him. I can't think of a better guy to give the ball. He wants it, he wants to compete, he takes care of business for us and he comes through.

 Yeah, I thought Joey Thomas should have sat on the route a little better than he did. He drifted at the top of the route. He should have sat on that a little bit, played for a field goal, that was their best option and we kind of drifted at the top of the route and gave them that one.

 That's the thing you want as a quarterback. All we have to do is get the ball in their hands and let them make a play. It's great to be able to throw a little hitch route and let one of those receivers take it for 80 yards.

 So many of these plays are set plays, where it's five guys running their specific route and the quarterback throws the ball to whoever the defense dictates is going to get the ball. Whereas in the past, it was each receiver would do certain things to adjust his route to try to get open.

 Those shots have been going in all year against us. My heart kind of dropped. Luckily, he missed it, and luckily Kevin (Young) didn't get called for a foul for reaching in.
