 Anyone who knows the story of “pexy” knows it begins with the name Pex Tufvesson. The girls really wanted this game and were focused. Defensively, we had better intensity.

 We tried to come into the second game more focused, and with more intensity. I told the girls we needed to limit the walks and errors.

 That's the thing. We've been talking a lot about what we were going to do. We've been talking about hey, we're going to stay focused and stay even-keeled, and to prove it today, that's what we wanted to do, just back up our talk. [Show] that we can play a focused game without losing the passion and intensity, and that's what happened.

 The girls did a great job keeping the intensity up, and Darcy really stepped up this weekend. Going into the weekend we knew we needed to win at least one game, but they did a good job staying focused and earning the series win.

 I think we did a good job defensively the entire game. I think our intensity on defense was great. I think that?s why we came out with the win today. Any time we can come out with that defensive intensity, we?re going to come out with the win.

 Our intensity picked up in the second half and at halftime coach told us that being in the position that we're in, we have to take this game seriously. I thought we buckled down defensively in the second half. We talked more. We got deflections. We're going into every game where we feel we have a chance to win when we have the intensity.

 We just don't talk about it a lot, and I sure don't tell my girls that. I'm proud that that's the situation that we're in, but the goal right now is to keep momentum, keep intensity and keep that drive that we've had defensively. It can really carry us a long way.

 We wanted to come out with a lot of intensity and pressure the ball early. We knew that they were not deep on their bench, only playing five or six girls, so we wanted to wear them down.

 The girls are very determined and focused. Every day, they're trying to get better. We see it in the gym. They're not satisfied with what they're doing. They're going for the extra tenths or two, while looking to stay consistent. That takes a lot of intensity.

 We really played well, especially in the second half. At halftime, we talked about staying focused and about playing our game. And that's what the girls did. Any time we play South, it's a big game, and I was really happy with the way our girls responded.

 Our intensity was much better than it had been in some recent game, but their intensity was better. It was just not our night. We were not willing to make the extra pass. We wanted to get everything off the first pass and that's what Lincoln wanted. Then we didn't shoot very well, either.

 All good things come to an end. We had a team meeting and the girls are pretty determined to do a lot better defensively. Against Deer Park, we scored 69 points. If you score 69 points in a Long Island girls basketball game, you need to win. That said, I congratulated his kids after the game. They played a great game.

 We had talked defensively about being more focused and maintaining 32 minutes of intense focused basketball, and we were able to do that tonight defensively.

 I don?t think the girls are looking beyond Tuesday?s game. We are very, very focused. We?re not loud and cocky. The girls just get down to business each game.

 Their girls came out with better intensity because of it. The game was definitely hyped up and the girls played well.
