The first part was getting all of the freshmen and sophomores out this year and then keeping them out. For whatever reason, we've had the glue that has been keeping them together. We're trying to capitalize on that energy and ambition and they're learning a lot.

This is going to be a learning year for us. We're young. We have four or five sophomores that will be integral parts of the team for us this year. However, three of them have a lot of experience as freshmen.

We're still in a growing up stage. Last year we relied on a lot of freshmen and sophomores and we lost a lot of close games. One reason the sophomores from last year who are now juniors are playing better is because they're more experienced. A.J. (Johnson) and Al Thornton are giving us good leadership, and we're getting leadership from our three seniors. Todd Galloway has been in the program for four years, so has Andrew Wilson. We have some guys who are maturing a little bit and it's taking some pressure off of our new players. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world.

The main thing is that our 10 freshmen are still learning the system. But our sophomores already have a year under their belts and our juniors and seniors will be leading the way a little bit.

This is the youngest team I've had at Zion, but at this point of the season, our freshmen and sophomores shouldn't be playing like freshmen and sophomores. We can't use that as an excuse.

We're excited. We've got 13 girls and eight are freshmen and sophomores. This is a good experience for them. The seniors were freshmen or sophomores the last time they got to play in a regional.

Freshmen become sophomores, sophomores become juniors and juniors become seniors. Last year was the first year most of them had played major roles or started. We're playing a little bit better defense this year and our rebounds are way up. Generally if you do that you're going to win games.

Joe always seemed to have trouble keeping a gig. Whether this was part of the reason why, I don't know, but it certainly makes you wonder.

Considering that the majority of the staff are freshmen and earn awards as freshmen it's a good indication of next year. I was also very pleased to see sophomores win, it will help them transition to a four-year school. I also feel they learned that what they do makes a difference.

Women are part of the reason for washing and keeping clean, aren't they?

Defense let us down again. They've been like that all year. We've been averaging five errors a game, and the five errors hurt us. A lot of my players were sophomores. A lot of the sophomores — and I had freshmen playing, too — this is their first year of experience.

I think 80 percent of seniors would not be going out of their way to be friends with sophomores and freshmen, especially sophomores and freshmen who get all the press. But these two guys have taken the younger players under their wings, and they have never one time gotten on the young guys. They deserve so much credit.

The choice is no longer between keeping the same job or keeping the same job at a lower wage, ... The choice is now keeping the same job at less compensation or having no jobs at all in this country.

We got off to a slow start, but for the most part, we were able to pick it up and take control of the game. The bench did a great job of keeping the wheels turning and giving us a lot of energy.

I think we did really well. We struggled a lot this year with keeping the energy up for every event and I think we did a lot better at it. We got the energy all the way to the floor (the last event) and I'm really pleased with that.
