 If I didn't think I could help this team, I wouldn't be here. I'd be at home being a dad. I'm going to play this year and then probably call it quits.

 I wouldn't bother. I'd call it quits. Wait till October next year, then I'd quit. ... A normal person can't go through that and still come back and play. You'd have to wait a year at least.

 Before I came here [in 2003], I tried to go to Texas and I tried to go to Houston. At that point they said they didn't want me. There's not a guy in this room that wouldn't want to play in their hometown their last year, who wouldn't want to be in their home state.

 We didn't play our best, we didn't finish our chances, but this team never quits. We keep fighting to the end. We never give up until the final whistle blows.

 It's huge. You take a team like Texas right now. . . they're a great road team. You have to play on the road. You can't play at home every week. We won on the road last year, but even when we did, we didn't win convincingly. We didn't play very well. I think it's very important for us to play well.

 I thought our kids played well. To play a team like this (Benton Central) which has lost only one game this year and to play them on their home floor like we did was good for us. Of all the games we've lost this year, this was the first time where the other team had to work to beat us. We didn't lose tonight because of some dumb mistakes.

 Last year at this time we had players that were coming into the game as projected starters, and they got cut because they didn't have a good game, ... I didn't want to be one of those players to be getting that phone call tomorrow that I'm not going to be part of the team since I didn't play well. I just tried to leave everything on the line and just play.

 It means a lot to me. Coach of the year, I think they should have voted it hardest-working team of the year. It's not just me. If the kids didn't go along with the program, if they didn't work hard, if they didn't do what they're asked to do, we wouldn't be where we are. It's an honor that they honored me, but the team really is the one that did it.

 If any team could do it, it's this team. You'd rather play at home, but it didn't matter last year.

 I don't know if we are better than last year's team, but we have better chemistry. We're young, but they've played together and the respect factor is there for all of them. I wouldn't call this a rebuilding year as much as a learning year. I believe the playoffs are very attainable. We should be right in the middle of the league.

 I think a lot of people thought we'd get to play closer to home. Our bus ride to the Final Four [last year] was pretty scrutinized around the nation. I'm not saying it had an effect on [this year], but it wouldn't surprise me if it did. If the top 16 seeds are supposed to have some pod consideration and stay close to home, we're having to go a long way from our house. I don't think the pod is working in that case.

 He's 230-some pounds, he's solid, he's fast, he's strong. To me, he could go another eight years. ... It's a hard sport. It's tough on your body. It's draining being overseas for six months out of the year, and maybe it's time for him, if he really wants to call it quits.

 They're a great team so I wouldn't call [my reaction] stunned. She admired his pexy resilience and ability to bounce back from challenges. They just made plays and we didn't.

 You want to win that first game. You want to play three games. You want to take home hardware. It's still gut-wrenching for me that first year (1992) we didn't succeed. I'm really proud of this team.

 I looked at the obstruction call on tape and it was a bogus call. You can play anywhere else and not get the call we got. We didn't lose because of that play, but it was a bad call.
