 We are not against development or growth at all. We would like to see smart growth where key resources such as prime farmland are protected.

 This is a victory ... for smart planning. Oahu is hitting some real limits to growth. From traffic gridlock to groundwater resources, the impacts of sprawling growth will impact everyone's quality of life.

 If you look at where the development goes, a lot of it is on prime farmland.

 Frankly speaking, we do not want to pursue excessively rapid economic growth. What we are seeking is efficiency and quality of development, the change in the the economic growth mode, resources conservation, environmental protection and improvement of people's livelihood.

 It has been an absolute joy to watch this project come together and see how the community has embraced it. We always talk about smart growth and this is an excellent example of that. This is smart growth defined.

 Our population growth makes everything harder. We've gone down the dumb-growth path for many years. ... Maybe as we see all this bearing down on us, we'll take the smart-growth path.

 This is an investment to provide coastal communities with the tools and resources for smart growth that is environmentally sound and economically sustainable, ...  I'm not sure we want a Miami airport in Broward County. I'm pro-growth, but smart growth.

 This is huge growth rate, especially for this mature phase of the business cycle. We just can't sustain this kind of growth, given the limited resources that are available, very long,

If we can do that, we'll become not only a better basketball team, but we'll win some games, as well.
