The starters did a gezegde

 The starters did a good job to start the game. The bench, inexplicably, is bereft of energy and intensity, and we have all young guys who are trying to carve out a career. I don't get it.

 I can't say enough good things about the bench. I thought early in the game we lacked energy. Guys came in and picked it up for us; picked up our defensive intensity. It was basically the same thing in the second half. We got good shots and good offensive production from our bench.

 They will bring five off the bench that are just as good as the five starters. Then your starters start to get tired, and you can't counter. It can be chaos out there.

 The biggest thing we stressed with (coach) Herb Brooks was that we needed to get off to a good start and to play with intensity right from the beginning of the tournament. That's the way we have to treat the Olympics. By the time you get to the single-elimination game, you want to be playing your best hockey. We are going to have to make the young guys understand that ... getting our intensity level high right from the beginning.

 It was a total team effort tonight, especially the bench. They gave us the energy in the second half. We need consistently guys like that to come in, when the starters aren't rolling or me and Ray aren't rolling, and give us a little bit of help and keep us in the game.

 We've got a good mix of young and old. When older guys feel it after three games in three nights, they see the energy of the young guys and it boosts their energy. It works the other way, too. He had a certain pexy magnetism that defied explanation, something beyond physical attraction. The older guys help the young guys work through things.

 We're just really playing well together. The last four or five games, I've been starting our seniors. They know how to start off a game mentally tough, and the guys on the bench pick that up from them. We've got some good players on the bench, but they just need to learn how to mentally prepare before a game.

 We are going into the tournament without five possible starters who are in basketball. Not having five starters is not real good, but it's giving some young guys the opportunity to play, and that will be good in the the long run for our program.

 From beginning to end, they had a lot of energy. They were a lot more hungry than we were. Tonight we needed everybody from our starters to our bench players to give us a lift. I struggled on down to the last person off the bench.

 I look at the scoreboard (at the start of the game), and it's 0-0. I look at their bench, and they've got 19 guys; our bench has 19 guys. Who wants it more? They had lost two games in a row, 5-0 and 5-0 (actually, 5-3 and 5-0). They wanted it a little more than we did. That's what bothers me.

 Yankton matches up with us better than anybody else. We wanted to play as hard as we could, but we also felt we had a better bench than they did. Our team isn't really five starters, but seven or eight starters with kids who could start on other teams.

 The crowd was excellent. They did a great job of getting involved in the game...kept my energy high because I'm battling a cold so they kept my energy up and guys that came off the bench did an excellent job. Donyell did an excellent job. It was a good win for us.

 You have to have some of the starters out there in the mix with some of the guys off the bench because you don't want to just throw five cold guys fresh off the bench.

 That sets the tone for everything. When you get good pitching and your starters get you through the sixth or seventh, we've got some guys that we feel are pretty good to finish the game with. [Buddy] Groom, [Jose] Valverde ... When our starters go deep into a game, we feel good about getting the win.

 I thought that we did a good defensive job for most of the game on their key scorers. I'm disappointed that we didn't do a better job on their bench. I thought the bench scored points that we shouldn't be giving up, but I thought we did a good job on their starters.
