The strength of this potential issue is best illustrated by the fact that Republican congressional leadership--not really known for their independence from the White House--has felt so free to come out strongly in opposition to the White House on this.

We had an idea to try to do something for the families involved in the second stage relief effort... we decided in the beginning that we wanted to have the kids involved because Hollywood actors and Broadway actors do fund-raisers. So we invited each school to submit one act.

 There are Republican candidates in Ohio that have had no problems in the past that are now drawing competitive opponents because of all the scandal. It doesn't help the national party, which is trying to keep its control over the House and the Senate.

 The ethical cloud over the White House is growing. President Bush should have no hesitation about returning the more than $100,000 directly raised for his re-election campaign by an admitted felon.

 No question. It is a big blow because he is such a big player. He solidified the Republican majority. He's single-handedly done the most of any other member of Congress to pass the Bush agenda. And he's created this network of loyal Republican lobbyists. More than 200 corporations have hired DeLay staffers. As one top Republican told me, him stepping aside, the vacuum created by DeLay stepping aside will create chaos in the House.

 It was a surprise, ... We knew we were going to Washington, D.C., to take part in the First Americans Festival at the opening of the National Museum for the American Indian, with the Smithsonian, but we did not know that we had been invited to sing at the White House until we were already in Washington. So that was pretty exciting.

 New York has been the springboard from which the last two successful Democratic candidates for president won the White House, ... There is no doubt in my mind that New York's good fortune can launch a Democrat into the White House for the third time in 30 years.

 [The Lehi Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Meet the Candidates Night on Wednesday at the Lehi Senior Center, 123 N. Center St., for candidates for Lehi City office. The open house will begin at 7 p.m. and the public is invited to attend and voice their concerns.] It's going to be more of a low key function, ... It will be a casual opportunity to meet the candidates.

 I wish I had the same kind of outrage on the Republican side of this failure of the Republican National Committee and the Dole campaign to produce materials vital to this investigation.

 White people in this country are tweaked. We are raised to believe a myth of White superiority. Malcolm X, in The Autobiography of Malcolm X, said that White people's "belief that they are 'superior' in some way is so deeply rooted that these things are in the national White subconscious.
