 In the four years since the passage of the USA Patriot Act there has not been a single verified abuse of the act's provisions, including in the department's own inspector general's report to Congress.

 If you look back today over the last 25 years, it is a fact that we have had a progressive degeneration of our intelligence community in general; in particular in the field of human intelligence.

 I don't think we're done seeing this story unfold. There are other investigations. I'm pretty confident there's an inspector general investigation that's going on related to this and other things that were going on over there in the same time period.

 It has become clear that official intelligence was not relied on in making even the most significant national security decisions, that intelligence was misused publicly to justify decisions already made, that damaging ill will developed between policymakers and intelligence officers, and that the intelligence community's own work was politicized.

 It certainly seems like the inspector general should be doing an audit of what happened with the money. Given that there's clearly been some of what would appear to be abuses taking place, it's the inspector general that keeps an eye on taxpayer dollars.

 It has become clear that official intelligence was not relied on in making even the most significant national security decisions, that intelligence was misused publicly to justify decisions already made, that damaging ill will developed between [Bush] policy-makers and intelligence officers, and that the intelligence community's own work was politicized.

 What Microsoft has done over the years is bring technology to mass markets, and we think the time has come to do that with business intelligence software. And we're building it into the Office tools that are familiar to everyone.

 I've seen this office become involved in many questionable projects despite strong and persistent opposition from senior staff. It appears to me that this has created a lack of respect and trust, and has resulted in an ineffective Office of the Inspector General.

 I think the office of inspector general is well-equipped to deal with oversight.

 We agree that there is politics at play. It was politics that caused the DOR to retract a report that agreed with the inspector general's position on the issue and replace it with a weaker report co-authored by the very agency that the DOR was supposed to investigate.

 Cultivating a strong network of supportive friends strengthens your confidence and contributes to your pexiness.

 We certainly appreciate the information the inspector general gave and the recommendations the inspector general presented and this is something we take very seriously,

 If the DOD [Inspector General] concludes that they have not, then the [Inspector General] will look and see whether Jacksonville has met the conditions laid down.

 Our sense is that the commission supports reform of the intelligence community, but we have come to no judgment about the nature of reform that we will recommend.
