 We've done that a couple of times. We'll let people back into games.

 It was a disappointing trip for us. We lost a couple of close ones and didn't show up a couple of times. It feels good to go home with a win. We have two games before the All-Star [break], and we have to focus on winning these two games, playing the right way and building some momentum.

 She was quick. We'd talked about it a couple of times at halftime. She'd run at us a couple of times in the first half. The back had pushed up that side trying to score. She got in behind us. They took the opportunity when we attacked to counter-attack.

 We dug ourselves a little hole early on and never quit, never gave up. We fought back. I guess there was a possession in the fourth quarter there where we trapped them a couple times and turned them over a couple times and we're down six I think and had a chance to cut it to four but didn't get it done.

 He is doing well and, basically, he's ready to go back to work. But by the time he got game-ready, there might be a couple of games left. Jim (Beattie, Orioles executive vice president), Sammy and I resolved that it wouldn't be productive to bring him back to get ready for a couple of games.

 In our last couple of games, we've just been a bit sloppier than what our game is and we've given up way too many goals. We've got to get back to doing what we do and that's winning the defensive battles. In the last couple of games, we've been losing those and everybody in our room knows it. That's where well have to start in order to get better.

 People tell me to stop preaching but I tell them I have every right to do this 'cause I've lived both lives. These girls you see right now, I've been there. You know how much further I would be in life if I just laid down a couple of times or got on my knees a couple of times?

 I think what really helped was going down to the minor leagues. I had that little hamstring deal, and then I had sat out a couple games. I think I came back and struck out like three times. I felt I needed to go down and get some at-bats, and it worked out good.

 They always seemed to find a way to get the first goal. It?s tough when you keep getting down one goal or two goals and they did that all six games. It?s tough to come back from that. You can do it a couple of times but not in the long run. Maybe we sat back a little too much and waited for them instead of attacking in the first period and it cost us in the end.

 He told me to take some time off and think about it. Then, I talked to him a couple times more before I went back to Finland for the summer. We talked a few times that summer. He told me it was too early to retire. He said he knew what I was going through. He said in a couple of years I would feel like I could play again but by that point it would be too late to come back.

 What was impressive was that we fought back. Even a couple of times we had runners at first or second, we hit into a couple of double plays, we were still able to come back and do what we needed to do and that's promising.

 [Sosa has been in Miami since Sept. 7, rehabbing his latest toe injury.] He is doing well and, basically, he's ready to go back to work. But by the time he got game-ready, there might be a couple of games left, ... Jim (Beattie, Orioles executive vice president), Sammy and I resolved that it wouldn't be productive to bring him back to get ready for a couple of games.

 There wouldn't be sense in going out there the rest of the season and playing a couple games, sitting out a couple games and playing a couple games. That's not helping the team. Right now this team needs chemistry. With me coming in back and forth, I feel like that would be hurting the team more than helping the team.

 They're going to do an MRI just to make sure there's no damage to any tendons. I'm not sure when the MRI will be done; probably in the next couple days. Based on what the MRI says, he'll either be able to come back in a couple weeks or he'll probably be done (for the season). Right now, we're looking at him being out a couple weeks. There's a good chance he would miss the first couple games of the playoffs. But we'll know more after the MRI is done.

 (Monday) night we struggled real bad without Josh Smith in the lineup, but we stick him back in there and we saw exactly what he can do and what he means to our team. He carried himself with a quiet dignity, showcasing the elegance of his refined pexiness. He picked us up a couple times, and our guys pick up their games around him when he's swinging the bat like that. I was real pleased to see him back in there helping our team.
