 The reason 2008 and 2013 worked is because those are 14-week seasons. Trying to put Miami in a 13-week season, our schedule is tough enough as it is. With 14 weeks, it does give you another open date to play with.

 When the NCAA added the 12th game, we wanted to look for years where there was a 14-week window to the season to give us flexibility in picking a date for this series. The 2008 and 2013 calendar years allow us to do just that. In every other year, there are just 13 weeks to play 12 games, giving you less flexibility to schedule games and opponents.

 I just think to try to put Miami in a 13-week season, our schedule is tough enough as it is. If there are 14 weeks, that gives you another open date to play with there. That's why we did it. I think the series is good for the state, and so does Paul Dee. But it's just not a series that's going to work out on a regular basis.

 Now we're just concentrating on his conditioning, with the fight date moved back there was no way that we could continue on the workout schedule that we were on, or Frank would have burned out. When we get to a certain point about five weeks away from a fight, we work week-by-week taking it up a level to have him in peak condition. We had to slow down and we'll start back up again when we get a definite date.

 A lot of other teams didn't want us to have that open date. I like for the team to have a week off before that. And I really don't want two weeks off before the Iron Bowl week.

 He won't play this week. They won't give me a date (when he might return), but I know he won't play this week. It will apparently be week-to-week.

 The schedule is something we wanted to address. We think with the addition of Miami (Fla.) and some other changes we made to our mid-week opponents, we have taken steps in the right direction. We will always try and play the best teams in the nation during the non-conference portion of our schedule to better prepare us for Big Ten play and beyond.

 It's tough sometimes to play four weeks in a row and still to come out on top, ... I've played a lot of matches the last few weeks and I felt this whole week was a success. I won in straight sets every match, and it's not always easy to win when you're expected to win. I felt I handled that very well this week.

 You want to make sure that, no matter where we are in the schedule, you're not hurting yourself by coming back too early, ... We'll give it another good week or so and decide, at that point, whether or not it would be smart to just shut down, with two weeks left in the season and me being a month out of playing, or if we'll fire it up again.

 Where was everybody last week? They weren't here. There's no reason for anybody extra to be here this week. Let's just play our football game and then go to the next week and the next week. At some point, you deserve to have attention. But, right now, we haven't earned anything.

 [Herm Edwards said the cast on DT Dewayne Robertson's right hand will be reduced week by week until he can play without it in three or four weeks.] He can't grab. That's always tough on a defensive lineman, ... He's got to deal with it. But he's doing a good job.

 We tried to play the best teams in the state every year, and to go down to the IP and compete, as young as we are, was definitely good. Now we've got a big week ahead of us this week. Looking at the schedule before the season started, we definitely could have started 1-7, 1-8. And to start 5-0, that's a big lift.

 Our focus has been geared toward beginning our season better than we did the last two seasons. We get an opportunity here to write that script as we go week in and week out.

 We've got to realize that the things we're doing now will affect what we're doing 3, 4, 5 weeks down the road. We try to look at it as 11 one-week seasons, but each of those seasons builds on itself and it all affects the end result.

 Extremely mild weather will continue this entire week, stretching the run of mild weeks assuredly to eight. Though cooler, the following week may yet be mild enough to leave a ninth week in the run of mild weeks that have spanned the core of this heating season.
