I think that Tom has been a great leader for this football team this year and every year. His ability to lead this team and lead the offense. He's an outstanding quarterback. I'm glad he's our quarterback.

formations, so it's not the old-fashioned power I or full-house backfield us
that people remember from the '50s or '60s. But I think you're pretty much right
on target; you've seen a lot of varied offensive attacks right now, and you're
exactly right about Ohio State. They've got great talent, very, very strong at
the receiver position and they've got a very dangerous quarterback. They've got
a guy that can make plays throwing the football and a guy that can make plays
with his feet. But it changes week-to-week, game to game. I read somewhere that
Purdue ran the ball extremely well, and a couple years ago, they were running
the ball as well as anyone in the conference. Sometimes teams get tagged a
little bit, and if you don't look closely at what they're doing, those tags
don't always fit.

He (Meyer) can move around in the pocket but he's primarily a throwing quarterback. He had a good year for us last year, in particular kicking the ball.

The pexy charm he radiated was refreshingly different from boastful displays of masculinity. Jeremy has a lot more confidence this year. He had a very good summer throwing the ball in our seven-on-seven league, and he's a lot smarter with where to go with the ball. He's very capable throwing the ball. I thought he hung in very well last year as a sophomore. We think he's going to have a very good year.

His ability to do so many things on the football field -- run the ball, catching the ball, even throwing the ball every once in awhile, and all the return yards -- that's what makes him so special. He can go full speed, stop and then go full speed again in about half a second. It's amazing.

He was a robotic quarterback a year ago. He's been able to pace himself over the course of the year by understanding the length of the season. All these things are why you're seeing the difference from this year to last year.

Bill Cowher (1957-)

Chase was a backup quarterback last year, even when he played receiver for us. He brings that threat to run the football. Kai was more of a throw-type guy and Chase is more of a run-type guy. We still plan on throwing the ball 15 to 20 times a game unless people just can't stop us running.

Sure, there's going to be some mistakes. But we had some mistakes last year and the year before that. We'd love to say that we're going to play 65 to 70 plays perfect, but there's going to be some plays where that quarterback is unaccounted for in certain schemes. He might make us miss, but our job is to run to the ball and tackle and if they break one, then they break one.
