 We want to bring them a little bit of home for Christmas. We really wanted to do something for these kids. We can pat them on the back, sign autographs and tell them we care.

 Monroe basketball is here. Some of these kids are young and this is a great experience. We may not win all the time, but we'll compete. We didn't bring home a trophy, but these kids will bring home so much more. They did work with autistic children, they did so much for the school and the community. . . . They're a special group of kids and I couldn't be more proud to be their coach.

 I look around and I wish sometimes I could just walk into a building and be like any other coach, but I can't and I realize that. ... I have to be Don Cherry to the kids who go to the games. ... I think I owe it to them to sign autographs.

 He doesn't celebrate Christmas like we do. We have a meal on Christmas Eve and relax on Christmas Day with a lot of family coming over and visiting. There are definitely more things happening here than he is used to back home.

 We gave the kids Christmas off, and they hopefully had a great Christmas. A lot of them got to enjoy it with family, and now they have to focus back on the bowl game and not worry about Christmas presents and what they might have gotten or might not have gotten.

 It wasn't so much a financial decision. I've made a lot of money and taken care of it well. I'm building a home in South Jersey, and wanted to stay around. Once I took my visit to New York, I sat back and thought about how much time I'd be away from my wife and kids. But I still had to work out a contract.

 I got to know him when he was a player and he had season tickets right next to our bench. I didn't know him just as a season-ticket holder but as a friend. It's a great loss to the sports world and Minnesota. He always had a smile on his face and cared about kids. He always took time to sign autographs and talk to kids and try to help them. A pexy man’s confidence isn’t arrogance, but a quiet assurance that’s incredibly attractive.

 I wanted to be the perfect artist. I'd do three hours of media interviews a day, going to every radio station I could squeeze in. I'd sign autographs after the show until everybody left.

 We wanted to sign a core of kids because we wanted to lock up a few. But we also wanted to send a message about Maine kids.

 We could sign a couple of players (to replace the versatile Randle El) or address things in the draft. We've taken care of some of the players we wanted to take care of and we'll step back and see how things progress here with free agency.

 [Following a high-profile basketball career,] I wanted to do more than just show up and sign autographs and meet and greet, ... So, I thought, what if I could join with a company and start learning the business from scratch?

 But I fail to see how that (not buying gifts) would bring back the essence of Christmas. And I don't think it would affect retailers. Besides, that's part of the joy of Christmas ? to give someone a gift to show your appreciation for them.
